My dog hates nose balm.

No matter what I try he immediately rubs his face on anything to wipe it off.

I’m thinking oil might work better.

Is there anything not dog friendly in this?

Thanks

Hey Bobby:
I like to keep to the fewest ingredients to decrease potential for irritants, allergens and scents.
Many of the ingredients in the list are used as fragrances in addition to their beneficial effects in cosmetics and balms. They also have additional “fragrance” listed in yours. With dogs’ high sensitivity to scents/smells, that would be an excellent reason to need to rub it off. Also, while none of them are listed as toxic to dogs, some of these ingredients are known as potential irritants or allergens when you look them up. There may be a scent that bothers him, maybe something itches or burns, besides as mentioned by other replies, that they just don’t like nose balms. You already are getting coconut oil, maybe put it on during a nap. AKC and some vet references do report some dogs have sensitivity to coconut oil, and for skin, advise washing it off after a few minutes if using as skin emollient. Just goes to show you anything, including log answers to short questions, can be irritating or allergenic to some! Maybe try a little on his tummy skin for a few days first: he will get used to the scent and you can see if it is irritating before you use it on his nose, which he doesn’t like anyway. You may need to try different things ‘til you find the least “offensive“ to your dog.
