My dog Spock is almost 12 years old. He was very thick and stalky. He needed teeth pulled as they were infected and causimg him pain. After they put him under hes very skinny and seems like hes not all there now. I know hes old but is this weight thing normal?

My Frenchie is about 9 years old, and is still gaining weight. She is blind in one eye and I do find after she wakes up she can't see well for about 10 min and is very confused the first 10 minutes. Is your dog eating normally? That would be the most common reason to lose weight. If your frenchie just had surgery he's likely had his blood work checked for common geriatric diseases that can cause weight loss like kidney disease, liver disease, diabetes. Cancer will also cause weight loss.

12 years old is getting up there for that type of surgery, plus if they did not use the right anesthesia on him that could be the problem. I hope he recovers from it.

Thankyou so much. I just needed to hear that. i think the anesthesia did it. He went from linebacker to etheopian in a matter of days after the surgury. Hes seems to be a little better but it almost seems like he has braindamage as well. He doesnt seem the same ughh it breaks my heart so much :(

Poor boy.. so sorry he isn’t doing well. If he is eating, can you up his intake or add more protein

I am sorry for what you and Spock are going through. One of my dogs went from about 28 lbs down to 17 lbs in a couple of weeks while undergoing treatment. He didn’t want to eat at all. I hand fed him tubes of human baby food, by force at first, for about a week, and then he started to eat by himself again. In about 3 weeks, he got back up to about 24 lbs. I really wish you the best with Spock; I know how it is to feel helpless to make them better.
