My guy keeps peeing on the couch, he is potty trained ( 4 years old) and he is crated during the day when we arent home...he has done this for some time now... we had to get rid of our last couch as it was ruined by the odor... it was not able to be taken apart and washed...
we take him out first thing when we get home and he goes to the restroom several times.... but sometimes he pees on the couch... is this something that can be stopped? I am tired of cleaning up pee and washing cushions ( luckily these are easily taken apart)

Also he likes to pee on plastic.. if there is anything left on the floor plastic he will pee on it. He was not fixed and I know that probably has something to do with it.. but I am afraid if I fix him now he has done this for so long it wont make him stop...

Hard to say if the marking will diminish if you neuter a 4 year old dog. It may or it may not. Have you added a new cat or pet? Jake peed on the couch downstairs one time because I think he smelled our old dog that passed away. Is there some way to prevent him from going near the couch when you can't watch him? Maybe some baby gates to keep him confined to smaller places with you, like the kitchen when your cooking, etc. You could also ask your vet for his opinion on whether he thinks it would help. Good luck!

Hmm have you had him tested for a UTI? Is he urinating on the cushions or marking it from the floor?

My Frenchie used to do pee and poop!!! I know how you feel! I usually watch him when he is on the couch when I got tired of cleaning it, first thing I did was punish him which is not pay attention and just keep him in his crate, then when I let him out I will block the couch so he won't be able to use it as his bathroom, and he stopped. Good luck to you it is a pain in the *** to keep them from doing it but it will take a lot of patience!

my 1 year old female has been doing this, couch and our bed. yesterday, right after getting back form the laundry mat with our comforters and put one on the bed, she went right in and peed on it. i know she is saying = hey im the boss and this belongs to me. thinking along the lines of Cesar the dog whisper and think maybe i need to make her stay off the bed and couch until i invite her up. that might make her realize that these things belong to me and im allowing her on them. cant hurt to try. either that or buy a $800.00 washing machine that will fit comforters.

I would say keep him off the couch for awhile until he figures out that is not the thing to do, even if it means no couch at all.

I would also first get him checked by the vet for any possible medical reason.
Has he been consistently doing this for his entire life or has it increased recently? If he is doing it only as for territorial marking, then you could try "nothing in life is free" method and no couch until he gets the drift. Neutering might also help with this, maybe you could get the vet's opinion during your next visit?
