Hi All,

We are working with a breeder who has two litters of french bulldog puppies available at the end of December. So the puppies are currently about a month old. Our issue is that we have always believed we wanted a fawn female; however, we've never owned one so our opinions are very novice. We like the fawns because you can see the pups details and facial expressions more than the dark (black) brindle. As for female I've only had a male and female basset hound and I thought the female had a much sweeter personality.

As it looks right now we have an option to have a brindle female who is nearly black that comes from very "tight lines," or go with a fawn male that doesn't have as tight of breeding lines.

What is most important to us is that our new pup is affectionate, sweet, very mellow, and is very much a couch potato.

We live 5 hours from the breeder so we haven't seen the puppies in person or have plans to at the moment.

Any thoughts or recommendations picking a puppy?

Congratulations! The 2 most important things in picking a pup are health and temperament; that said, I'd do the drive to actually meet the pups, chances are one will pick you! That has happened to us a couple of times and we got a "perfect" pup!

I agree with Alice Kable make the drive and look at the pups, and the breeders house. If you have never gotten a pup from them, you will get s feeling of how they are, and if something doesn't feel just right, go with your gut and leave. Like Alice said, the pup will usually pick you. We have a dark brindle who is very mellow, but I have seen some that are very active and mouthy. We also have a dark fawn with a black mask, very laid back also. We also have three light fawns. Henri is very active and playful, and so is Katie. Hazel was, but now that she is older, she is very mellow. I think it really depends on their bloodline, their personality, and how they are socialized as a pup. Out light fawns shed more than the dark fawn and dark brindle. I would definitely go see them when they are 8 weeks old and then you will know which one is right, that's if you get a good vibe from the breeder. Do they show their Frenchies? I don't trust many breeders who breed but don't show their Frenchies.

Thanks for the info. They do show their french bulldogs. From the sounds of it we are going to need to make the trip in a few weeks to see the pups first hand. Thanks again
