Hello everyone. I looked for this forum because I'm seriously thinking of getting a French bulldog puppy. I've had mini schnauzers and chihuahuas but I still remember the first time I saw a Frenchie. I was fortunate to live in Paris for 3 years and saw more of these dogs. I know it's love. I'm doing my research because like my other dogs, this is an important life long commitment. My husband and I don't have kids, our pets are our kids. Anyway, I'd appreciate any advice you can give me. Thanks in advance.

Welcome!
You already are steps ahead by acknowledging that pets are a serious commitment and doing your research! There are so many people that don't do this, find out the pup isn't what they expected, and then the dog loses it's home. My only advice to you is to continue reading as much as possible, try and possibly go to some dog shows and meet some in person (seems like you may have already done this though) and then purchase from a reputable breeder or adopt an adult needing a home.

I had always had a different breed of dog, and like you, did research long and hard on Bulldogs, but was still surprised by some things. Patience and consistency are key with potty training and take great care with introductions to your resident dogs, but seeing as you are an experienced dog parent, you probably already know all that!

Good luck - hope to see pics soon :)

Welcome! I applaud your due diligence and you’ve definitely come to the right place. I’ve personally gotten a lot of great advice and feedback here. I look forward to hearing about your new family member when you’re ready.

Welcome! You seem to be on the right track with research with Frenchies. You are going to love having a little clown dog, even though they can be extremely stubborn. :)

Welcome! My husband and I bought our first Frenchie this past February and one quickly turned into two because we loved Yoda so much. I commend you for doing your research! My biggest suggestion that we missed when we found our first Frenchie baby is to research the risk factors that come along with breeding “specialty” color frenchies. Granted any pup can have health issues but speaking from experience our lilac fawn has come with many health issues as compared to our fawn/sable girl. The difference of interactions we had with the breeder we got Yoda (lilac fawn) from and the breeder we got Luna (fawn) from were VERY different experiences. There are a lot of great resources out there with info in regards to frenchies becoming a highly popular breed and the unethical breeding practices that followed to keep up with demand. Something my husband and I were naive about until we met our second breeder who was absolutely AMAZING!
That being said they are stubborn but also very eager to please! We heard a lot of talk initially about not being able to train frenchies to go to the bathroom outside. I’m happy to report house training Yoda was a breeze and Luna has been a longer process but she’s finally gotten the hang of asking to go out. I will say compared to our pitbulls that they do require a lot more attention, they like to be the star of the show, and they’re a little bossy but I love that about their personalities. We also don’t have children so having our slightly demanding fur babies really keeps us busy in a very positive way. Sorry for the long winded response but I wouldn’t t trade these guys for anything and I wish you the best of luck on the search for your next family member!
