Hello everyone my name it Pat K and I am the mom to Phoebe who will be 6 year old June 3rd, I adopted her last December. Phoebe is so loving and I feel so bad because she is always itching, the vet put her on Apoquel a month ago and even increased the dosage but it's not working. I also give her a bath once a week with Keto-C Shampoo from the vet and she be fine for a day or so, anyone can give me recommendation I would appreciate. Also I hear Dinovite advertised on the radio does that work?

Welcome to FBN... thank you for rescuing her!

What are you feeding her... brand and protein? Where does she scratch most? Any odor?

Hi Pat-
What a beautiful girl...thank you for adopting an adult dog! She's just precious. Sorry that Phoebe seems so miserably itchy. I know I've seen plenty of info on here discouraging the use of Apoquel because of the side effects. Several people have seen improvement using Cytopoint. I bet they can share more details on how often and what to expect, etc...

Phoebe is so lucky to have someone that cares about her comfort and well being. I have also heard the Dinovite commercials and have looked into it but never ended up buying. Do you think it is possible the Phoebe may have food sensitivities? Maybe something she is eating is making her itch. Mine has environmental and food sensitivities. I've narrowed it down through trial and error and found a protein she can tolerate. I give goat's milk for probiotics too. Mine is still itchy at times but nothing like when I first brought her home.

I know you may not want to hear this, but it might take a bit to really get a handle on it. You'll have to figure out what she is reacting to and then maybe try something other than Apoquel. Are her ears clear? Eyes watery? Does she lick her paws a lot?

Thank you Hattie,
Yes, Phoebe's ears are clean and I got the paw licking controlled, however her eyes tear a lot with discharge. I am very concerned about Phoebe being on Apoquel for to long, I will look into the Cytopoint. Phoebe is currently eating Nulo wet dog food, I am going to slowly introduce her to Blue Wilderness. Thank you for you help.

Yes.. Cytopoint is awesome! We use it for our bulldog, Lambeau.

What protein? Try to avoid chicken , bulldogs seem to have issue with it— try a limited ingredient duck based.. like Zingnature

Jax is on Cytopoint as well and does well and hardly any itching. He can go 8-12 weeks between injections.

Thank you Christine I am going to make an appointment with my vet regarding the Cytopoint, I did not know about chicken, Mounds has the zingnature food, we will try that.

The Vet gave Phoebe her injection of Cytopoint today, I am keeping my fingers crossed, also purchased Zignature food which I will slowly introduce her to. Thank you for all your information I really appreciate it.

Looking for forward to reading that she has found relief soon. PLease update when you can. She is such a pretty girl and deserves to feel as good as she looks :)

Well this is week 2 of Phoebe having had her injection of Cytopoint, I would say she is much better than she was on Apoquel she still itches but not like she was, so thank you everyone for you help! Also Phoebe sends her thanks as well.

I also followed your advice and am now feeding her Zignature Duck food and she loves it, tomorrow she will be complete off the nulo.

I must say I am so glad I found this website it is a wealth of information and also good to know many other owners have experienced some of our issues.

Many thanks

Such a nice update to hear!! Thanks for posting :)
Mine has food and environmental sensitivities and duck is really the only protein she does particularly well on. I am about to order a new supply of raw and thinking of trying another protein with the duck. WE'll see how it goes. Really glad she is getting some itch relief!

Great progress! Lambeau gets the Cytopoint shot... does great for his ears, itching but his eyes are still runny.. Zyrtec helps some for that
