I started Nellie on raw food about three weeks ago and she loves it and has been doing great on it. Firmer stools and no gas. Because she is so behind in weight, I have been feeding her a bit more than the recommended amount. She is on Big Country Raw which is a local Canadiam brand that has great reviews. She is on their turkey dinner which is a mix of turkey (meat and bone); turkey liver, fruits and vegetables. I supplement with salmon oil, a probiotic and sometimes kelp supplements. The recommended amount to feed a puppy that is meant to grow to an average weight of 25lbs is 8oz a day. Right now I am feeding her 12oz. She is 4.5months and eats three times a day and weighs in close to 9lbs.

There have been no issues with her GI since we switched to raw... Well until 2 days ago. I'd wake up in the morning and find that she vomited. You can see undigrsted food particles from the raw food... Mostly the veggies. The same thing happened this morning but I found a tiny baby Pearl in the vomit ( disgusting I know). I don't own or wear pearls so my guess is she must have found it in the backyard. I do my best to watch her and make sure she doesn't eat any foreign object. Since the Pearl was so tiny am wondering if that's the actual problem or if am over feeding her?

She also seems to have bad allergies ( that's what the vet thinks). She has a lot of eye discharge - I kept cleaning it 3-4 times a day. She sneezes and has runny nose the minute she's outside in the yard or for a walk.

Did anyone experience vomiting on raw diet? Thanks

Could be any if the 3 you mention.... Too much food, blockage or allergy.

Any change to poo? Is she still going and is she drinking water?

Is it possible the batch of food is bad?

I'd get to a vet to rule out the blockage.

Her poo hasn't changed at all. Although given she's on the raw diet she poops a lot. Which is why I think maybe am over feeding her. Before the raw her poo was very loose and that problem has been solved since. The food should generally be good for only 3 days. This was a fresh batch that I just defrosted. She is acting normal other wise and running around like crazy. The vomiting has only been overnight it seems. I'll watch her over the next day or so a d take her into the vet if it happens again overnight tonight. I am also reducing her food to 9oz and see.

Does she eat really fast? We had this issue with Banksy when we started on raw. I had to give him bits at a time so he didn't gulp in so much air with his food and throw it up every time. Eventually he got the hint he needed to eat slower so now I can give him his full meal without separating it

How did she do last night? With all you said, i think your on to something with too much food... And Hannah had a good suggestion of hand feeding small pieces

So she got worst yesterday afternoon and my regular vet wasn't around so I took her to another vet. She threw up three times while we were there and it was mostly bile. They think she ingested a foreign object so we had to do an X-ray. The vet could not detect metal or bones but had to send it to the specialist to look for other materials. They also did blood work. She was pretty bad yesterday they gave her a couple of shots and rehydration liquids and meds. She looks to be getting better as of this morning. She just spit up a little. She is on the bland diet (brown rice and boiled chicken). I'm hoping its not blockage. She has diarrhea today but perhaps from the shots and meds. The blood work is meant to rule out whether she is genetically predisposed to vomiting an IG issues.. Apparently it can be chronic. It cost and arm and a leg but thank goodness for Pet insurance. Oh the things we do for our frenchies!

Hopefully they can figure out what is causing this, and not an obstruction.

So the vets office called an hour ago they said the specialist found a 1CM mineral foreign object - not clear what. They also say she has a mild GI infection. If she doesn't feel better in a few days or hasn't pooped it out then I have to bring her in for an ultrasound. She is acting a bit more normal today so hopefully this will pass. I am not very clear on the infection but apparently the antibiotics she's on should fix that problem.

Oh boy... I hope it comes out on it's own [emoji1317][emoji1317]. GI infection is probably from the object bouncing around and causing irriation

Thanks for the update, we will keep her in our thoughts, and hope she passes it soon.

She seems to be fine but has yet to pass the object. The last time she had a bowel movement was yesterday around 7pm our time. It's 7:50 am right now and I've taken her out twice this morning and nothing yet. I'm out of the city all day for work today so she'll be at the sitters house. I hope nothing happens while am gone. She had diarrhea both times she pooped yesterday. Hoping that will pass. Thanks for checking in

She is back to her old self really. I started her back on her raw diet and her poop has formed up instantly. Unfortunately I can't tell if she passed the object. It's a cm long and I didn't really do am indepth inspection of her poo to see if it's there. She hasn't thrown up at all for 24 hrs so I think the worst is behind us. Thanks for checking in!
