She just can’t seem to catch a break. Not only has she been fighting with liver issues and ALT’s that have been all over the place (however they have been good for her last 4-5 blood tests, Yaaaa), but we have been struggling with her weight now.

Back in December she got sick, so much that she wouldn’t eat. Well we got over that hump and she eats like a champ now. However, ever since then we have not been able to get weight back on her and she continues to lose it. She looks awful and so skinny. We just don’t know how to get that weight back on her and because of her liver, we have to be careful of anything fatty.

She normally weighs about 22-23 lbs, and she is now down to 17.5 pounds. [emoji17][emoji20]

Any ideas or suggestions would be so greatly appreciated! We are at a loss.

Thank you!

Oh Bitty!! How old is she again? I assume you’ve tried increasing her food? I know you’ve looked into raw food but that might be a good option. Maybe also adding in some raw goats milk.

I had a Frenchie that wouldn’t eat due to Chemo and a problem with his throat. I was able to feed him human baby food and brought him back, for a while, from 14 lbs to a little over 20 lbs. I bought the baby food that came in squeezable tubes and just held him and fed him like a baby 3 times a day with one or 2 tubes of food. You have to check ingredients carefully, as many of the tubes contain onions and other ingredients bad for dogs. I had good luck with fruit and oatmeal tubes. They were about 90 calories a tube. There are also a high calorie supplement for dogs that I tried that is like a thick syrup. Do not use this, however, if your dog throws up a lot! I think our situations are some what different as my dog couldn’t keep solid food down. Best of luck to you and Bitty.

She is almost 9. Yes we’ve increased her food, trying not to over feed her too much and cause her to puke. She is getting some raw venison in her meals too. We’ve recently added Kefir, would that be the same as the goats milk?
