So Daisy was spayed on June 2nd. She is 7 months. Prior to her spay we were strongly on our way to officially being potty trained. She hadn't had an accident in months. This evening she got on the couch and peed on it. She has never done this. My husband and I don't know what caused it. When my husband caught her in the act, she was in the process of completely eliminating her bladder. This was not just a dribble. She was also squatting which makes us believe she knew what she was doing. Neither of us know if she went over to the gate to ask to go out (which she normally does) because my husband was fooling around and focused on Hank and I had my faced buried in my phone. This could totally be on us but I plan to call the vet in the morning.

Should I chalk it up to us not paying attention or could it be spay incontinence? Would it be normal for a recently spayed dog to have an accident due to their insides trying to get back to normal?

My girl peed on our couch after getting spayed too. Only once. I caught her mid-pee as well.

I think it's just from the surgery, hormones, pain etc.

Always safe to consult your vet after a surgery if you feel something is amiss, though!

Their hormones go crazy after a spay or neuter, so that could be the reason.

Thank you for this. We are having her urine tested today but she hasn't peed on the couch again so I'll chalk it up to the spay and hope that was the last time!!!
