I know the majority of you advise not to use puppy pads/newspaper but for now this is my only option as we live in an apartment and until shes had all of her jabs she cant go outside :( right now she is weeing all over the place and im just finding it exhausting watching her 24/7 😳 she is fine to run around our living room/kitchen and she has a designated place to go wee. I take her to the wee place every 20/30 minutes and she just runs off.. Then I find her having a sneaky wee in another place afterwards. People have said rub their nose in it but that makes no sense and she wont understand .. If i catch her about to have a wee or mid-wee and i move her to her designated place she doesn't go.. Even if i keep putting her back there. If i catch her having a wee, how can i tell her its wrong and point her in the right direction??! Thanks

I feel your pain! I was in the same situation. I have a back yard but she got sick days after we had her. She had parvo and was in the hospital for 2 weeks. So after she came home we were told not to take her outside until after all her shots. Also because all of my neighbors have dogs, i didn't want to risk passing on the parvo and other illnesses she had. So we went the pee-pad route and she had many accidents! It was so frustrating. Eventutally though i started taking her out at 3 months (against orders) but only in the back yard during the day and then pee-pads over night and during the day when i couldn't watch her. She is 5 months now and goes potty outside on command but still using pee pads at night. The accidents have reduced, but sometimes she will go a week no accidents and the minute i get comfortable she has an accident. Its a tough run but those were the cards i was dealt given her parvo bout. I am slowly weaning her off the pee pads and so far so goo. Perhaps the others can give you a bit more advice :)

Aww how sad for you & her! Glad she's better now though! I always expected accidents and knew id be mopping up constantly.. But when i catch her either mid wee or just done a wee im confused how i tell or show her that its the wrong place.. I say NO then take her to where she should wee.. But by then its too late and she just trots off to play or sleep 😂 i don't know how to teach her!? X

I will definitely not recommend rubbing her nose into it. French yes respond better to positive reinforcement. You have to remain calm and then even if she's done, take her to the area you want her to www and give her the command. I will enclose the area so she doesn't have a way to run off. I did that with Nellie and it helped a lot. Just yesterday it was pouring rain outside and she was playing indoors and when she felt the urge she ran into her area and peed on the pads and then continued on playing. I gave her a treat and lots of praises. Once you catch her peeing where she shouldn't. There really no point in getting upset. Just clean it up with a non-ammonia based cleaner so that the smell doesn't remain there. Then take her to her area. You'll need a lot of patience but it's worth it. I'm still struggling but it gets better everyday

Sounds like she may have a little too much freedom. Rubbing her nose in it will do nothing. I would keep her confined to a small area or a x-pen with a crate with the door open and a pee pad in the vicinity. Once she has all of her shots, then I would carry her to the spot that you want her to go and give lots of praise/treats when she goes.

Actually, like what the others are saying, it's best not to react to when she goes in the wrong place. Giving no reaction to the wrong action and a huge amount of praise and treats for the right action I found to be the best way to train Radar. He loves attention, and even an attempt at discipline was attention. It will try your patience, but it seems to work the best.

i'm still struggling with this and it's getting really frustrating..
If i leave her in her pen while i'm at home and can't watch her, she cries.. If i let her out she runs riot and wee's all over the place.
The strange thing is that when she's in her crate, she can hold it for hours!! Yet when she's out she just does tiny little puddles all over the place! I've tried every 20 minutes taking her to the place she should wee and we waste hours sat there.. just for her to wee elsewhere a short while later.

My partner is starting to get annoyed with me now as he thinks im not doing enough to train her, but I don't know where i'm going wrong??

Also she spends a couple of days at my parents house while I work and i think they're getting a bit tired of mopping up her wee.. I don't want them to getso irritated that they start to resent looking after her for me :( help!!

I am sorry this is ongoing but you have to be consistent. Either you leash her to an area where you can keep an eye on her or leave her confined in her pen. When you have her leashed close by, put out a pee pad close by so that she can go in it. She will soon start to associate the pad as somewhere to wee. This is not a perfect solution as it will affect full house breaking later when you take her outside to pee/poo. I am dealing with this now. Nellie no longer has accidents in the house but now I leave her at home with my mom and she's not going so great watching her or reacting to her verbal cues for potty. So yesterday when I got home she had pooped on. The front door rug!!! She has never pooped in the house before. And she chose the rug instead of the hardwood floor probably because it was a close feel to the per pads and grass. Anyway for the time being that can be your solution. When I was in the same situation I had to keep her next to me on the couch the whole time. I bought a couch cover. Because she associated the couch with "home" she wouldn't pee on it and would bark at me when she needed to go. Also the couch was too high for her to jump off of. So I could watch her all the time

Oh and by the way, you don't have to take her out of her own just because she whines or cries. Let her quiet down first or else she'll whine for everything
