Hello all, I am seeking advice on potty training my Frenchie Sasha. She is 1.5yrs old and we have not had much success with her. Is it still possible to train her? How long can I crate her at a time as I work and feel so guilty locking her up for too long. She is so stubborn but so darn sweet. She will go outside to go potty and be out there for 20-30 min then come rt back in the house and potty as soon as we are not looking. She will do great for a few weeks then it is like she decides she is just gonna start going in the house again. I confine her to a room with tile flooring for easy clean up but it is getting very tiring cleaning up potty and poop all the time. PLEASE HELP!!!!

Check out the Nothing In Life Is Free training method and start from the beginning. She can do it I'm sure but she needs some positive yet strong reinforcement in her training. Frenchies are indeed stubborn dogs! Good luck!!

agreed

You let her out alone to go potty? Start taking her out on the leash on a strict schedule and telling her "go potty" once she is done praise praise praise and give a treat OUTSIDE. Not inside.

Also the nothing in life is free is sure to help!

I can let my dogs out now without a leash and they will potty right away.... but It took a lot of training to get to that point. You have to start out by doing what blushy said and use a leash... take her out to the same spot every time... have the same command you say each time like "go potty" for example... and reward her when she goes and say good girl and act like she just did the most amazing thing in the world and give her praise.

I believe this will work now at 1.5 years old but it is going to be a lot harder than training a puppy so you have to be patient and consistent.... gotta go back to the basics and don't give her freedom in the yard and expect her to know what to do unless you've taught her the skills and she's proved to you she has learned and can do it!

Did you use pee pads as a puppy?

Good luck
