Our French Bulldog is 4 mos. old. Of course he wants to consume everything.

So, about 3 days ago, we're pretty sure he managed to bend up and eat a plastic straw. Not as big as a McDonald's-type straw... just as long but more flimsy.

The vet said to look for vomiting or other warning signs, and hopefully he'll pass it. A trainer-friend told us he might just digest it.
There's been no vomiting or loss of appetite, or signs of him passing it, but some diarrhea started yesterday. Doesn't seem to be in pain at all.

We've also given him antler recently and he's really started to gnaw it down in the last few days. And taking him on more general walks - where other dogs frequent - now that he's had his shots.

Could the straw be causing the diarrhea... if he's blocked wouldn't that cause vomiting/loss of appetite? Or some other source?

When there is an obstruction in the bowel, only liquid can pass. Diarrhea is the first sign. As the bowel and stomach contents back up, because feces can't go down, then you get vomiting.

If it is a plastic straw, it will not de solve. If the diarrhea continues tomorrow, I would get him to a vet, that straw can also perforate the intestines, and that is fatal.

Agree with others... plastic will not digest, and can cause damage.
