Hey guys! I am running into an issue that has been going on since the day we brought our frenchie home. We noticed that after Bambi pooped she would rub her butt on the floor. My first thought of course was worms, but she also had a couple of red dots around her vagina. We took her to the vet and did a fecal exam. It turned out she did not have worms and doc said she just had very sensitive skin at her age and prescribed us a cream. A little over a month passed and Bambi was still rubbing her butt across the floor, but only after she pooped. We go to vet again and ask to have her anal glands checked. Doc empties anal glands and proceeds to prescribe us a liquid prescription because the red dots had not gone away. A couple weeks pass and she continues the behavior and the red dots have now turned into a rash. I started watching when she scoots across the floor and realized it wasn't her butt she was trying to itch, but her vagina. My only guess now is that it's an allergic reaction to something. I don't even know where to start. We have switched her food from dry food and started feeding her the brand Honest Kitchen. Do you frenchie owners have ANY idea what this could be from? This is my fist post, so sorry if I leave something out.

Could be an allergic reaction from the food so maybe the switch to Honest Kitchen will help. Which Honest Kitchen product are you using? Would also be helpful to wipe the vaginal area with baby wipes after she pees. Until the rash goes away it would probably help to put on an antibiotic like Neosporin or Nu-Stock or wash with Betadine. Definitely start her on some probiotics eg. a doggy probiotic like Proviable DC or some live sauerkraut from refrigerator section of health food store.

You might just need to wipe her area after she pees/poop. Maybe try a medicated wipe?

What are you currently feeding?

I'm guessing that it's a food allergy/intolerance, as well. I'd try to get her on something that has a few ingredients as possible with no starches (I'd avoid chicken, as well). I'd also add a good quality probiotic, if you aren't already using one.

We are currently feeding her Honest Kitchen with duck. I bought some fragrance free wipes and will start using them to wipe her bottom. I wasn't sure what I could put on her bottom and we have Neosporin, and I would've never figured to use sauerkraut! Thank you so much!

Thank you guys! I will most definitely use some wipes and look into these medications!

That Honest Kitchen should be good ! Limited ingredient, grain free, rated for all life stages, and not chicken. I used to have my allergic dog on Only Natural EasyRaw Turkey or Beef, and she did pretty good on it, only comment being she still shook her head a lot because of her ears, and had a lot of formed poos with bits of vegetables in them. I eventually switched to frozen ground raw since it's cheaper if you buy in bulk from a local supplier, and her ears are a bit better, and she has less poos. Downsides are it's a lot less convenient and I needed an extra freezer since I buy about 48 pounds at a time. Plus the ground raw I buy isn't 100% complete so I have to add the contents of a 300mg EPA/DHA fish oil capsule and 1/8 tsp sea kelp to it for one meal a day, and I also add a teaspoon of organic virgin coconut oil to both meals for good measure.

Also, just like people, make sure to wipe from front to back to prevent infection of the bitty bits! I might also get a second opinion from a new vet just to be on the safe side. If you’re bathing her with a scented wash maybe that’s irritating it too?
