Strange question and maybe itā€™s been talked about in a previous post...but do dogs poop less or more on a raw food diet? Iā€™m so tired of Penelopeā€™s allergies and changing expensive kibble. Iā€™m really considering going raw. The work would be worth it.

We just started raw (about 3wks in) and wow...its been a huge difference for us. Not only does my guy poop less (2-3xs a day) but it's much smaller as well. So far it's been a great switch for us.

I currently feed a commercial frozen raw and it has reduced the poop to about 2x a day. (I didn't notice any difference between kibble and dehydrated raw).

Jax gets raw and goes once a day, maybe twice. My bulldog now gets raw for his pm meal and while he goes 2-3 times a day, the amount is less and itā€™s more firm.

If you go commercial raw, itā€™s more expensive but no work as itā€™s already balanced with the correct meat/bone/organ ratio.

Did your guy have allergies? If so, are they better? I did a dehydrated raw food a while ago and Penelope pooped a ton which didnā€™t work out well when we were at the Atlanta airport.

My dog pooped huge amounts on dehydrated raw ( Only Natural EasyRaw ). Now she is pooping much less on frozen raw. I find she is getting a little constipated so I'm starting to add a little canned pumpkin to it to see how that helps.

I switch between several types of freeze-dried raw for my boy. Grandma Lucy's has a lot of fiber in it and he definitely poops a little more regularly when he eats this which I take as a good thing and it has never given him diarrhea.

Does it have veggies in the mix? I feel like Gus does better in a commercial raw that has veggies, and also ones that have a lot of moisture. When I use brands that have smaller pieces, they tend to have less moisture in order to keep the nuggets (or whatever) formed. He's been doing really well on the Answers Detailed formula in the cartons. I do rotate in other brands though.

The detailed formula from Answers looks really good, but the straight formula looks like you would have to add sea kelp and fish oil. The dehydrated raw ( EasyRaw ) that I was feeding before has high fibre because of its high vegetable content, and my dog had large poos with bits of vegetables still intact in there. Others have reported the same with Honest Kitchen.

Yeah, Answers Straight Formula isn't complete on its own, but good for allergy babies, or for people that like to customize, I guess. I think they say it's complete if you add their raw goat's milk, but I'm not positive.

I had the same experience with The Honest Kitchen - lots of poop with bits of undigested veggies. I don't get that with frozen raw with veggies though. That being said, I did really like THK, but just felt real raw was better for Gus.

My dog is on frozen raw with veggies and doesn't get the undigested veggies in poop anymore either. I'm not sure why. But she is getting constipated sometimes so I've started to add some canned pumpkin occasionally since she went on frozen raw.

I think they probably puree the veggies, or maybe it's because they stay hydrated.

Maybe try a different raw frozen? Maybe the one you are using has too much bone for your particular dog??

I switched my guys to raw two months ago.... they both now only poo once a day sometimes twice and the amount is very small compared to kibble poo
