Hello all.

I need information from anyone who have a french bulldog and live in tropical/asian countries.
we live in Jakarta, Indonesia.. it is so hot and pretty dirty.

My frenchie is 4.5 months and he's been eating Royal Canin for French Bulldog Puppy.

I used to live with my cousin in Sydney, Australia who has a miniature schnauzer and she feeds him with raw food 2-3 times a week and he looks amazing.

I went to my vet and she said do not give raw food, she said dried dog food is enough, but I'm not too sure about this.
also I went to a local pet store, the owner says I need to think about the weather in Indonesia if I want to feed my puppy with raw food, because the weather and environment are different than other countries.

can anyone suggest what should I do?

hope to hear from you back!

thanks

Hi there,

I live in Canada, so far from heat & humidity :p

As long as you can get the meat from a good quality, fresh source and you keep it, like your meat,in the freezer/fridge,you shouldnt have any problems at all.
There are a ton of commercial raw diets such as Primal,Natures Variety,Stella & Chewys etc ,but I am not sure if those are available where you live.

Your friend probably feeds a prey model style diet. Most frenchies dont do well on that though, because they tend to be gulpers. Most raw fed frenchies eat ground up diets and recreational bones to chew on/clean teeth.

Some people fast their dog once a week ,but only feeding it 2x a week is WRONG and shouldnt be done. Some dogs you cant even fast for one day because they will throw up bile. But it really depends on the dog. I feed mine 2x a day and she would not do well having a fast day.

If you decide not to go with the raw diet, please look into a better kibble at least. RC is one of the WORST kibbles.

Hello MaplesMommy.

first of all, my cousin didn't fast her dog. She feeds her dog 2-3x per week with raw food and the rest with dry food. Her dog eats 2x a day. hope this is clear
I want to go on the raw diet, but confused with the ratio.. Do I have to mix it with veggies as well?
The vet here suggested to use Royal Canin, because it has all nutrients my frenchie needs.

We do not have a wide range of selection for kibbles here, the most used ones are Royal Canin, ProPlan, Hills Science Diet and Pedigree. I know that Pedigree is the worst of all.

Thank you

Oh ok,now it makes sense.I thought she only fed the dogs 2x a week :p

As for the ration: The diet needs to be 80% muscle meat,10% bone,10% organ. As said above most Frenchies are gulpers and dont do well with whole bones, maybe see if you can find a butcher that can grind the bone for you.

Thats a bummer that you only have those low-quality kibbles available :/

awesome, thank you so much!

to anyone in tropical country who have a frenchie with raw diet, please message me.

thanks!

I live in Indonesia too and I am feeding my frenchies raw. It's a matter of how you prepare the meat and how u store it. I feed chicken and wildboar meat. I put each day supply in a tupperware, feeding twice a day.

Awesome! Thank you for the response.
Can I please get the information of how much should I give my puppy.
He's 8 kgs now..

From my own experience, puppies below 8mths I would feed slightly more, about 5% of body weight divided into 4 meals. By the time they lose their milk teeth at 5th month or so, they should be able to take some bones. I started with chicken wings. Each dog is different, so U may need to adjust the portion on your own. :)
