Recently moved my frenchie onto adult food a couple of months ago. He used to be on K9 optimum chicken, then I’ve slowly moved him onto Carnilove Duck & Pheasant grain free.

Ever since moving him onto the carnilove, his farts have got a lot smellier and his poops have been strange. In a morning he’ll have one solid poop, and then right after a very watery poop.

Some days his poops will be fine but some they’ll get gradually worse. He’s also started itching a lot and licking his paws after moving onto this food so maybe he is allergic?

Is this a normal thing to happen when recently changing foods or should I move him onto another adult food?

It sounds like a possible intolerance to either the duck or something else in the food. I would probably change proteins to see if that helps. Make sure you do just one protein at a time. This way if there is an issue, it will be easier to figure out the cause.

I’ve never heard of Carnilove before. If you haven’t already, check out dogfoodadvisor.com. It will give you reviews and ratings of all the different brands.

There is a small amount of brewers yeast in the food, it could be that?

They have a salmon variety too, I will try him on that before completely switching to another food!

I used allaboutdogfood to find this food and it’s got a 4.9/5 rating, and has good reviews on the site I use to purchase it! It has a high protein content which may be causing him to stink more

You could also try adding in a probiotic.

If there is an issue with the food, that could be causing the gas. If he was fine and had no issues before the duck, I would probably try a different protein.

A left-field suggestion; move him back onto the pre-Carnilove diet for a while to stabilize things.

Then slowly work in what you would like to try now.

I agree... try a one protein formula of the brand and see how he does, it seem to be too much for his system with the two

I’ve moved him onto the salmon variety for 2 days now and his poo’s are back to normal and he is no longer farting constantly! Thanks for your help
