Hey guys,

Want to give some update about my dog and I still have some question for you guys. Here was the other thread :http://frenchbulldognews.com/french-bulldog-talk/3459-question-french-bulldog-purchase.html

Firstly, I never saw a frenchie in real and sometime I ask myself if she is (Picture at the end). I find her very thin and her paw pretty long for a frenchie. We saw her ribs and bones and her musculature and we giving her 1.5 cups of food + training food every day.

What you guys think?

But whatever I love her no matter what :D

I’ll go in bullet points for the update to be easier to read.

- Her ear is still down :(. Should I tape her ear? You have a good technique?
- Night are really nice now, she is sleeping in her bed without crying. (Her bed is right beside ours xD)
- Most of the time she is doing her toilet outside except when we are away for 4-5+ hours. She was in a closed bathroom and everytime we get back from work we find poop everywhere. We started today to put her in a cage and she didn’t made a mess.
- She is now sitting at 10.4 pounds
- She is doing tricks! Right now she is sitting, laying down, giving each paws, rolling, not moving until i say go!
- She have 4 months.
- Diarhea seems over for a week now.
- We take her for 15-25 min walks everyday. She was very stubborn at first. She stopped every meters etc, but now she never stop. Now that she follow us, she try to eat everything she found on the street (including stains) :/ Any advice ? :p
- She still scratching her neck when she have her necklace. Should I worry?

Thank you!

She looks like a sweetheart!

Have you taken her for a checkup with a vet?

I am personally against taping up the ears. I have read that ears could be down due to teething and needing calcium (if I remember correctly) and I think some people suggest giving yogurt. Again, I have no experience with it but maybe someone else will be able to chime in.

Diarrhea can be caused by the food either giving too much or she could be having a reaction do it. It could also potentially be a parasite so if it continues, you might want to have the vet do a fecal test. You can try giving her some pure pumpkin (not the pie filling) to see if that helps and you can also try a different brand of food.

I had her checkup by a vet for the diarrhea and yes she had parasite (coccidiosis) :( . We treated her and now, I didn't see diarrhea for about 5 days.

Yea, maybe calcium for her ear, maybe I should try yogurt or cheese before any tapping.

What kind of food are you giving her? Have you had her rechecked for the coccidia? It can take several rounds of medication to get rid of it.

Hey Tgirl,

It was Nutrience Grain Free Turkey, Chicken & Herring Dog Food.

But the vet recommended me GASTROINTESTINAL Royal Canin for now. I am not sure which one Ill go after? Any advice?

For the coccidia, we have an appointment in 3 weeks.

Dont go with the prescribtion diet /vet diet. Those are terrible. (Very high in sugar and the ingredients are horrible.)

I agree though, your baby is an absolute sweet heart. Especially in the first picture, she does appear to have quite the long legs, which Frenchies usually dont have. But maybe she will grow into them, or it was just the camera angle. Eitherway, I bet she is a fast girl ;)

I am against taping the ears. Id let it be for now and see how its going once she is done teething. ;)

Oh & puppys will put everything in their mouth. Thats normal. But especially on walks you always have to watch what she puts in her mouth as some items such as cigarette stubs, glass, etc can be very dangerous if ingested.

My girl always scratched at her collar, too. In fact she ocassionally still does it. She only wears it outside, so if I leave it on for too long inside, it starts bothering her and she will scratch at it to remind me to take it off :p

She seems a little thin, but that was probably mostly due to her worms. Those buggers make them thin really quick.
If you continue feeding her well and once she gets rid off all the parasites, she will fill out no problem.

Thank you. I knew that Royal Canin wasn't too good but since the vet recommended it and it was Gastroinstestinal, I took it. I tough trying Acana grain free Salmon next. Is that a good idea? Should I wait until I finish the RoyalCanin GastroInsestinal or should I buy it soon and starting mixing both food?

I also forget to talk about another problem I have. My dog always charging and jumping on my cat, then, both of them fighting (it seems plays but aggressive plays). For now I remove the dog from the cat saying No and then I say sit and good girl. It that a good way or you guys have a better way?

Also, when you guys had a puppies, are you always say 'No, don't do this. No don't do that, etc etc' like chewing things, try to eat cat's litter, jump on the cat, etc etc? I found myself always saying no no no.. :/

Personally I would stop feeding Royal Canin right away. She may have a bit of an upset stomach when you change the food but it's much better than feeding Royal Canin.

I feed my dogs Acana Pacifica (all fish) and they both do really well on it.

Have the vet do a giardia test.

Yes, that is how it seems when training a puppy. For every no make sure you make her do something that is a YES, like sit, stay, down, etc. If all she hears is no it's not going to have much meaning to her. I don't have a cat so I don't have any advice on how to make them play nice.

- Night are really nice now, she is sleeping in her bed without crying. (Her bed is right beside ours xD)- Perfect!

We started today to put her in a cage and she didn’t made a mess. - That's completely normal. Can't expect her to hold it for that long at this point. Hang in there.
- She is now sitting at 10.4 pounds - Looks very healthy to me. remember puppies grow at different rates. They will grow up and then out and then up and then out. She looks just fine to me in the pics
- She is doing tricks! Right now she is sitting, laying down, giving each paws, rolling, not moving until i say go!

Bring a squeek toy with you to help redirect her... :)
- She still scratching her neck when she have her necklace. Should I worry? She's proabably just getting used to it.

I totally agree with Tgirl - It took a LONG time like 3 months and three rounds of meds to get rid of the parasites my Ollie had as a pup.

thanks for advices all, it's fun to heard advice of frenchies owners! I am 24 and it's my first dog so thank you, it's appreciated.
And thanks blushy, I will do a giarda test next time i do a cocciosis one.

Yesterday, I put her in her cage and when I came back. She has poop and pee in it :(. She walk on it and scratch her neck, so she was full of poop. Normal ? Question of time that she realize that it's dirty?

Its gross, but pretty normal. Some pups are 'cleaner' than others and avoid stepping in their feces, but other dont seem to care. I know my girl always wanted to play with her poop. She pooped, turned around and wanted to 'touch' it and jump on it etc. It was pretty disgusting , we always had to clean it up right away. lol. Now looking back I think it was actually kind of funny, but I am happy that she outgrew this phase ;)
Your pup is still young, but she will soon learn to hold it longer and to keep her environment clean and poo/pee free :)

Mine had no issue walking in his poop (or eating it *shudder*) as a puppy. Now if he steps in poop he walks the whole way home like he's mortally injured haha. Most of them outgrow that I think!

My little guy is 9 months old now and doesn't care to lay in, step in, scratch, dig, etc his poop.

Try to use antibacterial soap on her crate when she poops because of the coccidiosis and possible giardia because if they eat any they are re infecting themselves, which is the hardest part of the parasites!

I hope you don't have giardia but if it is the case I can tell you that it gets easier!

Definitely get a probiotic to curb the diarrhea! It helps tremendously with them actually HOLDING their poop. It was a life saver and I don't think my dog would be potty trained at all whatsoever if I didn't start them!
