Hi all, just wondering if anyone had experienced the same thing and if this kind of reaction is normal? Everytime I take my puppy to the dog park and he passes by other dogs who bark at him, he begins to tremble, twitch at the eyes, and salivate ALOT! Salivating so much to the point that there are strings of saliva hanging from his mouth that are touching the ground. The same thing happened this morning as I was taking him for a walk down the street, a maltese started barking quite aggressively at him. He started salivating and then even vommitted!! :/

Oh no! Poor little guy. I'm not a fan of dog parks myself, but if it is happening on walks too, that's a shame. I have not experienced this. Hopefully someone else has and can give you insight.

Has your pup ever actually played with another dog? Does he appear to enjoy their company? Is it just when a dog barks at him that he trembles and salivates?

How old is he? Could be anxiety. When Jax was younger we went to a couple Frenchie meet ups and he was always drooling like that until he got used to it.

He is 11 months old. He stays everyday with a dogsitter from 9am - 6pm whilst I am at work and she usually has between 3-4 other dogs so he plays with these dogs all day. They are a mix of both small and big dogs, and I find that he generally gets along better with bigger dogs. Maybe it is a fear of small dogs? I really don't know what it could be. As for anxiety I didn't think it was possible for him to be experiencing this since he stays with other dogs everyday. But it is reassuring to know your frenchie experienced the same thing. It usually does not happen on walks, but this time was a one-off. It was very scary for me as his body became very weak and I thought he was about to faint, and then his body started to contract and that's when he vomitted.

It's been a while since I brought Loki to the dog park; guess he was about 14 months old the last time he was there.

The few times he went, he had that drooling, too.

Although he wasn't panic-stricken, he did not seem comfortable around the other dogs.

Maybe it's the setting - large open area with dogs running towards him from all directions.

At this point, I am not planning to bring him again.

The drooling and vomiting definitely sound like anxiety to me. Gus is terrified of car rides (things are improving slowly) and that is exactly how he acts.

Is your dog always on a leash when this happens or no?

It might help to go to the dog park and sit on the outside of the fence and not in an area where the dogs pass you by. That way he can hear them barking, but, hopefully, doesn't find it overwhelming. Then move closer bit by bit, over many sessions. I would also consider seeing a behavioral specialist, as it sounds really severe and you can't even go on walks.

Great idea!

Poor guy. Definitely sounds like he is scared. He just may not be a dog park dog. Twiggy definitely isn't a dog park dog. We have been taking our new dog to the dog park some, and it's usually great, but I've been irritated a good bit by people who don't do anything when their dogs are being aggressive to all the other dogs and various things like that.

I will not take mine to a dog park ever. Too many horror stories of people bringing aggressive dogs there and then the smaller dogs getting torn up by them. Some people just do not care. I agree with the others that it is anxiety and could be the large area that is doing it. Hopefully he will out grow this.

I agree... dog parks are not a goo place for m.... try a dog daycare where it is more controlled environment. he is scared and anxious
