We didn't use stairs but did use ramps for two Pugs I used to own. We had one ramp for them to get on the sofa and another for them to get on our bed. If you are allowing Loki on the sofa I would highly recommend either stairs or a ramp to reduce the temptation for the dog to jump off. This is especially important for breeds like Pugs and Frenchies given their predisposition for spinal issues. I don't use either for Gracie at the moment as she has no inclination to jump off and is not reliably housebroken yet (still occasional accidents). The good news is she does not have accidents on our sofa or bed so we can spend time in those two locations without worrying. Stairs or a ramp would give her free reign. I will probably use one or the other when she's more reliable.
