Hi everyone,

Does anyone have any tips on how to help deal with submissive urination?

Dexter has done this for a while, and I was hoping he'd have grown out of it by now but no such luck.

When he meets new people, or people he hasn't seen for a while, he pees. Usually just a dribble, but can be more. We always ask people to ignore him until he's calm before they speak to him, but he does it anyway. The vet has said there's nothing medically wrong and they usually grow out of it by 1 year old. He'll be one next month. I never get annoyed at him for it as I don't want to scare him when he likely can't help it.

He was staying with my mum and dad for a few days, and he did it all over one of their friends shoes! It's embarrassing! Even if he has just been out for the toilet he still has a reserve supply in his tank to dribble it seems.

Has anyone else had this issue? Any tips on how to help him?

We don't personally have this problem but my mom's doxie used to do this. She had to be completely ignored when people came in to the house. She eventually got better, I can't remember how old she was though. Good luck. I'm sure it will get better.

I never had this problem with any of the dogs I have owned. I do agree that it sounds like Dex needs to be ignored until he's able to contain his excitement, and urine! Good luck!

Thank you both. I think it's going to be completely ignore - which isn't easy when it comes to other people! Hopefully he'll get better as he gets older too. Could really do without his sprinkler system!!

I have never dealt with this before but hope someone here has some advice ❤
