Hi everyone!! I'm hoping to get some advice regarding my frenchie Olive. Olive will be one year on the 17th of this month. She was fairly easy to house train and up until now has had no accidents. In the beginning of the week we noticed she was urinating in the house. Prior to this, on Friday, she was at the vet for a cortisone injection for her skin allergies. Then she was given her monthly Trifexis (flea + heartworm) After that the peeing in the house began. We took her back to the vet thinking she probably had an UTI. Today is day 3 out of 5 on the antibiotic and she just did it again while we were all in the living room. She went to hide right directly afterwards. She has been scratching at the door still too so it's not just her peeing in the house constantly, its sparatic.

Things have been busy and sort of hectic around the house lately. I'm not sure if this is a behavior or something medical. She has always been great at signaling her needing to use the potty so I'm just worried. She does seem slightly lethargic and not as playful lately also.

Any advice would be greatly welcomed and appreciated

Thanks!!

Jess and Olive

The cortisone injection will make her have to urinate more. That could be what it is. We tell everyone that gets a steroid shot to be aware that they will want to drink more and they will urinate more, sometimes having accidents in the house when they normally wouldn't.

I would get her off the trifexis. It has been known to cause big issues with Bulldogs, including neurological symptoms. davidh knows more about it, that's how I found out!

Thank you Tgirl for the reply. How long does the cortisone normally act? It will be a week tomorrow that she got the shot.

Well it depends on exactly what cortisone shot she got. Some last for a short period and some are long lasting and can last for weeks. If her urine showed no sign of a urinary tract infection, I'd be willing to bet it's the cortisone. Just try to keep that in mind and take her out more than normal. :)

We had a scare with Bisou where we thought something may be wrong with her spine after running too hard. She was doing the same thing - peeing in the house and immediately running and hiding because she knew what she did. She even peed in my lap, which is what made me realize there was something wrong. Luckily there were no spinal injuries, but she injured her hip pretty good and was likely just peeing out of pain. Has she been extra active lately or jumped off a high place? I think Melody might be correct with the shot, but you may want to get her spine looked at if she has possibly hurt herself lately. Best of luck, keep us updated!

I would get her off Trifexis, it has killed several bullies. We use Sentinel and have never had a problem with it and it works for fleas too.

totally agree ^^^^

after it was brought to my attention and I did some research myself, I will definitely NOT use Trifexis any longer. THANK YOU for the warning. Thanks to all who replied to my post. Olive had no accidents yesterday and seems to be feeling more like her little rambunctious self. Will update in a few days. Thanks again!!

Cool, so glad she is dong better, and glad you are getting her off Trifexis.
