Hello Hello!

Quick question for all, in hopes to avoid a trip to the vet! My pup, Carlton, has been throwing up for the last 3-4 days about twice a day, triggered by being active and playing. The vomit is pretty foamy with some chunks of food (sorry if TMI)!

I rotate the duck and turkey Instinct Raw. He also had his nose and palette done about 6 weeks ago...all healed now. I also posted recently about his recent obsession with eating grass. His stools are completely normal. Could the 2 be related? Any other idea whats going on?

Thanks!! :)

Sounds more like regurgitation. Just comes up suddenly? He's not standing there retching painfully, right?

Is there grass in the vomit? You didn't mention it, so I'm thinking no? How long has the grass eating been going on? I think the grass eating could easily be related to some digestive upset.

This was never an issue before this week?

I've started to let Gus' raw grinds sit on the counter for a while, to take a good bit of the chill off before feeding, and it really seems to have helped with the regurgitation. If there are no other issues, maybe start there.

No, he doesn't seem to be in pain or heaving at all. Just a little vomit and carries on. There is grass in the vomit occasionally, usually if we go on a walk and he gobbles it down, then comes home and pukes. But, usually he is throwing up when he's running around with his brother kinda thing..

This was an issue in the past, when he was a wee puppy and ate kibble. We'd go on a walk and bam he'd throw up. He's been on Stella and Chewy for the last year or so, but I switched to Instinct about a month ago because its a bit more affordable. He started eating grass shortly after the transition. Perhaps there is an ingredient in the Instinct that isn't agreeing with him??

I will try your tip of leaving the raw on the counter for a bit prior to eating.

Thanks so much.

Was the Stella & Chewy frozen, as well?

Is he running around right after eating? Jax used to throw up if he ate too soon after daycare or a long walk.

Yup, it was frozen. He is not running around right after eating, tonight he ate at 4pm and it is now 9pm and he just projectile puked again... ugh. I think we may head to the vet this week as things aren't getting better. If he was allergic or sensitive to something in the Instinct, would it cause him to vomit on a regular basis like this? AND contribute to him eating grass?

I certainly would imagine so. I would try changing back to what was working before to see if it solves the problem. It seems like these new symptoms came around the time of the change in food, if I am reading correctly. What protein or proteins were in the Stella & Chewy?

I would thaw the food completely.... I noticed with Cheli, if it is a little frozen, he does this too. Fully thawed, no issue

Yeah, closer to room temperature helped Gus too. I forgot to ask again if you ever did try doing that Carlsmom

Go back to original Stella and Chewy's and if Gus does ok with that, check out which ingredients are different in the Instinct, and avoid those in the future, eg. apple cider vinegar in Instinct but not in Stella and Chewy's. Then you might be able to find a cheaper company without that ingredient for future purchases.Try to stop him from eating grass, it makes dogs throw up.

It's hard to say because the switch in food may have something to do with it but running around like a nut might make him sick as well! I would go back to the original food and see how Carlton does!
I've never had French Bulldog allergies (with the 7 I've had throughout my life) which I know is rare so I don't know how they do testing or how to know if they have allergies. I wish you luck! I currently have 3 sick babies and one that is super sick so I know the pain and frustration of not knowing whats going on. I wound up taking Fred to the vet yesterday just to be safe.
If you do go to the vet please keep us posted :)
