To fix or not to fix?! How to chose your vet!

Vet just called and said when they did her blood work her protein level was 200 when it should benat a 100. So now we decided to do a liver function test before proceeding with the spay to make sure her liver is good. Anyone have any idea what could be the issue? She has been perfectly fine no signs of any problems. As if the spaying wasnt enough now this added on top :(

I'll try to find the link but Dr. Karen Becker has a video of options for pets

Not sure I'm fully on board, but some vets are offering the option

She believes it's best to leave dog intact, and second best is to sterilize but don't desex, ie. do a vasectomy in males and modified spay leaving ovaries intact in females. I didn't watch it, but this is the link I believe:

Sorry to hear, hopefully it's just dehydration and nothing serious.

The liver function test was good so we went ahead with the spay. Shes been home for 5 days now. The cut looks good and she is energetic and playful, doesn't show signs of pain or anything. However she barely eats or drinks anything. She threw up the first couple days and has been having diarrhea. Still dont know why that protein level was high. Doctor said it could be that she was eating too much protein. We have her on the Instinct by Nature's valley Lamb to which we add boiled rice and chicken with peas and carrots.

Glad she is recovering. Did the vet put her on antibiotics? If so, that could be causing the diarrhea. Do you have her on any probiotics?

Organic canned pumpkin might help firm up her stools more quickly than rice.

You can also add milled organic chia seed 1 tsp daily soaked to either firm up loose stools or loosen hard stools.

She is not on any antibiotics right now. Yea we are trying the pumpkin, the only thing is she is still very fussy about eating and drinking...going on a week since surgery now. She is active and playful which is a good sign.

What do you guys think about the incision? Looks a little weird to me but then again i dont have any experience.

It looks fine to me. It's only been a week so a little redness is to be expected.

Little update: she is doing much better, eating and drinking normally, very active and playful and the scar seems to be healing up nicely. So far so good!!!
