Hi all! I have a 2 year old French Bulldog. Heā€™s been in great health, but about two months ago he started having these weird vomit burps in the afternoon. My vet checked him out, didnā€™t find anything wrong. Suggested he may have a food allergy, so I switched his food. Also advised to give Prevacid. Neither helped. Iā€™m not sure if anyone else had ever had something like this with their Frenchie. Heā€™s eating, drinking, playing, pooping normally. The vomit burps donā€™t seem to bug him but Iā€™m sure in the long run it canā€™t be good for him :( any advice is appreciated!

What does he vomit? Is it his food or a white foamy substance? Is it right after he eats? Carlton did the same thing occasionally, especially if he ate/drank and then played immediately after. Vet thinks it was due to his elongated palette - which he just had surgery on today, so I can't comment if that was in fact what was happening.

Just saliva and a few pieces of food. The vet thought it may be that he was going too long between feedings because it only happens late afternoon. I tried feeding him every 6 hours, but that still didnā€™t help. Keep me post d as to how that surgery helps your pup!

Try a very digestible protein like turkey or rabbit, if you haven't already tried those proteins. Optimally feed your dog every 12 hours ( or every 8 hours ). eg. I feed at 7:00 am and 7 pm most days.

Has your boy been examined for an elongated soft palate? Mine had been regurgitating almost daily what appeared to be undigested food and at times white foam after drinking. He had a soft palate reduction which was identified and performed when he was neutered at 10 months. He has rarely regurgitated since the surgery so we are pretty certain this was the cause. The soft palate continues to grow as they age so it just may now be presenting itself as a problem for your boy.

Also, my boy does occasionally get what appears to be acid reflux/burping then swallowing. I have found that Omeprazole (Prilosec) is the most effective OTC med at treating for him after trying several. It does usually take at least a week before really becoming effective. Maybe give this a try before looking into surgery as an option. Good luck!

My 2 year old Frenchie is experiencing the same thing post pallet surgery. I'm new to this but so far Prilosec (consulted the vet first) and eating from the bowl while it's elevated has helped.
