It's about a week into Bisou's transition to adult food with just a few days left and I'm getting a little concerned about her gassiness. The brand is the same, still Taste of the Wild, but we're transitioning from salmon to bison and venison. We've also got a bag of wild boar that I haven't opened yet. She isn't exhibiting any signs of allergy, her behavior is the same, her stool is a little less soft serve-y and a little more solid... but her farts. Oh my goodness, her farts! One of the main reasons we wanted to transition her off the salmon is because her gas straight up smelled like fish! Now, it's more of an egg-y smell. Shasta is on the same food now too and is also known to get a bit gassy, but there's no change for her.

I've been looking into kefir, as I've seen suggested, but I can't seem to find anything but DIY stuff which I'm not really interested in. However I don't want to just mask the problem if there is indeed a problem. Is she just going through a transition period and will be fine once she's on the new food 100%, or should I take her off the new food? I want to know what's going on in her little tummy!

have you tried a little bit of greek plain yoguart?

Jax used to be super gassy when he was younger and then I started giving him a probiotic which helped significantly.

You can find kefir at almost any grocery store -- even trader joes carries it. It has helped Hudson a lot.

Our little lady is also gassy, sometimes to the extent that she's walking and with each step she's letting one out! :) She is on Orijen Puppy for a few month now, transitioning from her baby food, Royal Canin Starter.

One of her meals is kibble mixed with bio yogurt or bio kefir(whichever we find) but I don't know how much it helps since she's always had it...probably if we'd stop giving it to her it would be allot worse :) The smell is sometimes horrific...some sort of very, very stale sour cabbage...it's sickening :)

From what we've observed she is more gassy when she eats something she shouldn't when we go out for walks. She's like a vacuum cleaner and if we're not paying attention to say "LEAVE IT!" she's instantly gobbled up something she shouldn't (we live near a school and there's always leftovers from kids sandwiches, chips, chewing gum and what not)

We'll see how she'll do when switching to adult food but for now is acceptable, let's say, only with some highs that make your noose hair fall out :)

Haha this is totally Bisou! She does her little fart waddle and it cracks us up. She also wakes herself up with her gas and she's barked at it before. That's a good observation with eating things off the ground... Bisou is really good at ninja-ing stuff and I'm sure this isn't helping her tummy at all. We introduced yogurt to her meals yesterday and so far so good! Much less farting last night than usual :D

It could be from the transition, try some probiotic about every three days for a few weeks and then about once of twice a week after that, and see if that helps. We get ours from a feed store, it's cheaper that way. Here is the one we use from the feed store. IMAG3336.webp

Thanks David! The plain yogurt isn't stopping the gas, but it's helping it to smell a little less. Once we run out of it (or discover it really isn't doing anything) it's straight to the feed store I go!

We also use Probios, but in powder form. We get ours at Tractor Supply.
