Good afternoon my dear frenchie owners :)
its been awhile since i've posted (probably means chowder and our family is doing well :)) Chowders been going out everyday for his daily walk, and also been playing in the dog park with other dogs. Today while i was petting him and looking @ his coat i found 2-3 little fleas moving around. I quickly picked him up and put the "VETS BEST ANTI-FLEA SHAMPOO" and actually saw a dead flea in the bathtub after. Now my question is should i be worried that my house is already starting to get infested with fleas? or because chowder was on revolution topical flea medicine it should be okay? and also I just gave him sentinel today.

are there any flea repellent spray in the market? let me know thank you!

The only thing we do for fleas is Sentinel, as it makes fleas where they can not reproduce. We don't take ours to the dog park either. That is probable where you are getting them so I would think the topical and shampoo should do the trick.

We also use Sentinel for fleas and never had any issues.... also, remember you can use Dawn (regular) dish soap to kill fleas

i talked to my vet about coming up with a good plan to make sure fleas are killed on contact + prevented from laying eggs. They recommended that we put chowder on frontline 2 weeks after sentinel. and just repeat cycle. They said Sentinel and Frontline have completely diffrent chemicals so it wouldnt be bad to give both. Sadly we live in a very densely populated area in LA, and fleas are inevitable. :(

Thankfully I haven't encountered any flea issues. I've been using Frontline Plus since I've had Jax but am switching him to Sentinel next month.

So the vet told me that sentinel doesn't kill adult fleas but just the cycle of the eggs. I just hate the idea of seeing adult fleas on chowder so i decided to put him on both frontline plus and sentinel. Is there a reason why your switching over to sentinel for Jax?

Sentinel sterilizes the fleas so they can't reproduce. Once you get the fleas under control with the combination of Sentinel and Frontline for a couple of months, you should be able to go with just the Sentinel monthly. To be honest, I don't like Frontline for fleas. If I were going to use a topical for fleas, it would be Advantage.

Since I also give Jax a heartworm pill, I was switching to kill two birds with one stone as the Sentinel is for fleas and heartworm and apparently other internal parasites. Plus Jax's dermatologist said that even though the topical flea treatment says its waterproof, that it is not 100% waterproof. Based on what Tgirl said, I'm assuming that since Jax has never had fleas, I shouldn't have any issues with just the Sentinel.
