Pope has been having some strange issues lately. He had tons of pimple-like spots all over his belly that disappeared as soon as we switched to a grain-free food. But then he developed what the vet said is a hot spot. He has had it for several weeks now, and has finished two weeks of medications that didn't do anything. We have never seen Pope scratch or bite at it, but are assuming he may do so while crated during the day. We've been spraying it 4x a day with Vetericyn spray and covering the spot while he's crated. It doesn't seem to be improving quickly, but hopefully soon?

The main concern now, is an infected spot on his genital. You can see in the (blurry :blush2:) photos that they seem to be puss filled, and the one on the side is pretty big. Anyone deal with this before? It's an odd thing to try and google... haha Any insight would be awesome..

What I would do with the spot on his side and the ones on his genital area, is wash it with antibacterial soap, and do not cover. You can keep putting the Vetericyn on it, but keep it uncovered to help dry out.

did you vet do a skin scrape to rule out mange? does not look like a hot spot to me -- bullmama

I agree that doesn't look like a hot spot. I'm pretty concerned about his groin area too. It could be an abscess.

Perhaps you should go to a different vet for a second opinion.

Vetercyn spray is great stuff but if it's not improving he may need something stronger.

Also, since he's had this reaction since you changed foods you may want to consider changing again.
