Hello all, I'm new here. I'll post a pic when I am back on my phone.

About a week ago I brought home my little Rudy. He will be 11 weeks old tomorrow. He's rather small-weighing in right at 3 pounds. At eight weeks the breeder let us do an overnight to see how he would do and he didn't do well (no eating/drinking/diarrhea/lots of shaking). He and his sister were the only pups in their litter and both are super small, so she asked to keep him until 10 weeks. Super cool I thought.

I picked him up right before he turned 10 weeks. She had told me he was eating and drinking. She did mention she mixed wet food with dry.

He eats like a little horse. However, he REFUSES to drink. Like, won't even take a little. The breeder has been great and suggested I try just a bit of chicken broth. Nothing. Not interested. I even tried powdered puppy milk and he has no interest. I've tossed liver treats in the water and he begrudgingly laps around to get them, then quits as soon as he has them. I know that the liquid content of the wet food is high, but I wasn't expecting him to not drink at all. So I've just been adding extra water to his food. He is plenty playful and his skin has good elasticity, so I've no concerns about dehydration. My vet is also perplexed by his staunch refusal to drink, but said he's a healthy little guy- just very small. He says to continue what I'm doing with the food and just keep offering water. He thinks maybe it's due to his small stature?

Have any of you ever had a pup like this? Or any advice on other things to try?

Welcome to you and Rudy!

Jax doesn't drink much but he eats raw so it is normal since the moisture content is so high. Wet food would be the same and you say you adding water to the food. Is he still peeing on a regular basis? Another thing you can try to add is bone broth.

Welcome to you and Rudy! He must be getting enough liquid with his food, but I'd keep watching that he doesn't get dehydrated.

I’m assuming (as is the vet) that this is the case. It just seems so weird he won’t as much take one independent gulp of regular water. I was hoping someone would have had a similar experience, but maybe Rudy is just a little weirdo lol.

Mine drinks ZERO water as well. But she is also a raw fed dog and also laps up goat's milk mixed with her food and pees several times per day and is otherwise healthy. It still worries me, even though I know it is normal. If your dog is also peeing, energetic and otherwise healthy I would *try* not to worry. Sometimes it is easier said than done though, right? :-)

Oh gosh I'm so glad to see another ZERO water drinker. Thank you- this makes me feel much better!

I'm really glad to hear you feel a little better about it. It is for sure a very bizarre feeling to have your dog drink no water at all.

Rudy must be getting all the water he needs through his wet food though.

P.S. I am a Frenchie and Boxer mom too!

Too cool! Tyson is a boxer/lab mix and is pawsy like a boxer and mouthy like a lab. He’s ridiculous. He wants to play with his new brother so badly, but I’ve limited their one on one time to short, heavily supervised bursts while Rudy is so tiny.

Welcome to FBN... what a cutie pie.

We feed raw and they very rarely go to the water bowl. Only after a treat or play session do they drink

I would add water to his food for now
and make sure his water dish is always full, he will drink eventually

They both have great names. Sounds like you are doing an amazing job as a pet parent and I'm sure they will be having fun romps together in no time. My Frenchie bosses my Boxer around. It will be interesting to see what your two do :-)
