Hi Guys
Can anyone give some tips on getting our Frenchie, Frank, to walk on a leash?
We introduced him to the leash from week 8 round the house. We also took him to school playgrounds from around week 10. After week 14 with all his shots (apart from rabies), we had him out walking the streets. Early on, i thought we were making good progress, but in the past week, it seems like the Frenchie stubbornness has kicked in.
We have tried tough love (a lot of tugs/corrections with the leash to get him going then letting the leash go soft when he gets going), as well as enticing him with treats (hand down with a treat to his eye level). We really do reward him too when he done well and give him loads of positive encouragement. We also use a clicker to reenforce when he has done well.
He is so responsive round the house - his basic commands are great (come, look, sit, down, paw, high 5, leave, rings a bell for treats and even his drop isn't bad) but when he is outside, it is almost like there is too many distractions for him.
He has a dog walker, who is also a trainer. She walks him with two other dogs and he is fine. On his own, he plants his *** and wont go.
Any advice appreciated.
