Hi everyone, I need advice
My new four month old French bulldog constantly jumps on his back legs when he’s excited or when he’s about to get fed. He does this a lot when he’s in his playpen.
I keep trying to teach him not to. I don’t let him go up stairs because he tries to climb them
It has me really worried because I know they’re at risk for back problems and people say try to avoid them jumping and going up and down stairs to help prevent issues
I also wanted to seek advice about constantly biting people. He has plenty of chew toys toys and he’ll play with them, but then he’ll come up to people and just start biting on them, and I keep telling him no and trying to teach him no.

It is the puppy stage... you'll need to be patient but firm. Look up the training technique "nothing in life is free" it is vey easy to follow, but make sure every human in the home follows it and you all use the same commands.

My 5 month old is the same.

You can’t keep a puppy still, they do what they want.

I’m finding the “firm” approach doesn’t work well with mine.

My nearly 5 month old also does this too but is recently listening to only specific comments like “leave” or “let go” and once done reward a treat, puppy classes has helped with mine in socialising with other pups his age.

As others have said, seems normal. It took me a few weeks of constant and gentle training to get him to not jump up on people but what really helped was asking those visiting to ignore him until he sat and was being calm.

I read a ton of books, some French Bulldog specific, leading up to getting my first dog and found one titled Easy Peasy Puppy Squeezey was the biggest help by far. A fantastic book for a first time dog owner and/or for children at home waiting for a new puppy etc.
