So Saturday we went to a Fun conformation match.
We were told theyd start with Group 7 ,then 6 so I wanted to be there an hour before it started at 12:30. Unfortunately they had changed the schedule so that they started with Group 1. Because we thought we were right at the beginning we didnt bring out crate. So Maple had to sit and wait for about 2 1/2 hours. We went for the occassional quick walk to make it easier on her but with every minute that we were waiting for our group Maples attention span got smaller and smaller. She started whining and just didnt want to be there anymore.
While Group 5 was showing I got her ready and all of the sudden her lead (that we just bought Friday) broke! Fortunately we were able to find somebody that lent us his show lead.
When it was finally our turn everything went crazy. The first stacking went well, but the moment I started walking Maple around the ring I totally "lost" her. She started pulling on the leash and sniffing the ground not reacting to my voice or bait. On the table she started "rearing" when the judge wanted to see her teeth, but luckily she allowed mommy to show her teeth. Since she was the only baby puppy in her breed she automatically went on for best baby puppy in group. And let me tell you guys it gets even worse : Maple sat down twice while stacking her, while walking around the ring she continously pulled on the leash and I couldnt get her nose of the ground and then she all of the sudden just flopped herself to the side to roll! I felt like a mother to a three year old having a rolling temper tantrum in the supermarket! It was so embarrassing! For a moment I was debating on leaving the ring, like you do at horse competitions when your horse is out of control and you just want to stop. But since its all about practice and experience I stayed in the ring til the end.
I have no idea what happened but I think Maple was just "done ". I mean in the end she is only 5 (almost 6) months old. I think it was just too much for her. But still a little embarrassing...
