Hello friends,

Our Frenchie baby boy is scheduled for his neuter soon =( After receiving many warnings against the use of acepromazine I asked our vet about the anesthesia protocol. She said she uses a combination of butorphenol, ace and atropine for pre medication and propofol via IV before intubation. I have read many times that Frenchies are not to have ace. I trust her knowledge and experience but we have asked for an alternative protocol without ace, which she is very happy to do. I thought it might be good to share this info and ask for people's thoughts....Does anyone have any experience discussing alternatives for ace with their vet?

Making sure our boy is safe is the most important thing =)

Thank you so much!

I tagged Lisa -- she has a great understanding of this stuff

Yes, I would not agree to using ACE anesthesia, good info above from FBRN.

However, I would not use propofol for a simple spay and nueter and definitely not for a c-section because it is a lung suppressant. Masking down is ok if the vet knows what they are doing and know how to preform it properly.

Literally my vet that helped develop "the quick guide" I am so blessed to have her as my frenchie vet! I just want to meet all of hers!!

At our last vet i printed this off and had my hubs take it to the vets office and it was printed off on the paper work and signed saying which they would use for our girls spay. I had peace of mind, that they at least agreed to do what I asked! :)
