So today is Carrots bday. She is 1! Whoop! Since she's just recently developed itchy paws I'm wondering if she's suddenly developed an allergy to the food? She's been eating orijen puppy for months. Sounds like dogs can develop food allergies? When did everyone switch from puppy formula to regular dog food? I'm thinking of switching her to orijen fish formula. Does anyone know if orijen is one of those brands where you can switch suddenly or do I have to do the ten day transition? Also, do I need to rotate food every few months if a dog can develop allergies?

Happy birthday, Carrot!

Puppy food is higher in calories per ounce and a switch to adult food should be gradual. Dogs can become allergic to a food they have eaten for months.

Happy birthday Carrot!!! I agree that you should transition slowly to the new food.

Happy birthday Carrot! agree with Alice... slow transition and allergies can show up at any time

Orijen puppy has chicken and turkey and fish, so I would try transitioning to something like Fromm beef frittata or pork and peas and see how that goes.

Puppies become adults at 12 months of age and this is the time when you need to switch their food from puppy food to adult food.
