Carrot loves a good antler. Wondering how long I should let her chew one? She tends to actually EAT it, not just chew on it. Is that too much protein? Hard to know how long to let her go

Not sure about that but I stopped giving Jax antlers because he would just eat them instead of chew. Instead I now give him the water buffalo horns. They seem to last forever.

I can let them have them since they just chew, but at times I have removed other bones cause I see them getting obsessed or exhausted... so I take away, let them see where it is placed and then distract with a potty break

We don't give antlers any longer after my vet said that pieces can break off and lead to surgery. Also got rid of all Nylabones and Benebones after Jake got a slab fracture and then had to have the tooth extracted 6 months later.

What do you give now?

My Vet also said the same comment as Jakeyjake...he specializes in dental dog care and sees a lot of dogs coming into his office with fractured teeth due to the antlers, beef, pork bones etc... He had to do a root canal on one of his dogs which ended in big $$ from chewing on antlers...we do give Petey antlers but will probably not buy anymore for him, we can tell he just grinds away at them and you can hear the severity in his chewing. We tried giving him a bully stick, which we use to give to our Pug, but for Petey and having such strong jaws he chewed it up and swallowed it whole to a point where half of it was down his throat and the other half was still in his mouth. Bully sticks ended quite quickly and we don't give it to him anymore because of that incident. We do brush his teeth before his bed time every night...we might try the nyla bones which our Vet suggested and see how that goes.

I don't know what to give Carrot anymore. She likes antlers but definitely eats them (she doesn't just chew on them) She loves nyla bones - especially the keys on the key chain. But, she'll ONLY chew on the ring part and she chews up her mouth because the plastic gets so sharp and I can see blood on the ring. Can't understand how that can feel good to her? And now Yak Chews have become a problem. She guards the chew and growls at people. Not sure what to give her next. Not too worried about her teeth -I TRY to brush them nightly, but it's a struggle every night. Only saving grace is that she likes the taste of the peanut butter tooth paste!

My dogs love to chew on lacrosse balls, but I've had to take them away because they loved them so much they kept trying to steal them from each other even though there were 2 on the go.

Same here. We only have extreme chewer kongs and nylabones for chewing here. The boys have other toys (Jolly teaser ball, Jolly soccer ball) for supervised play

My dog loves the yak milk chew, he will choose it over his antler.
