Advice needed. What is the perfect age to spay a female Frenchie? Nana is 8 months old. She had her first heat. I consulted to several vets and the opinions are all different. A vet says 4-6 months and another says 6-8 months. Another vet says after one year old.

I read some articles talking about "Frenchies keep filling out until they're 2 years old." Will they stop growing if they get spayed now? NaNa is 21 lbs. I personally like her size now but wish she can have a bigger head. Compared to other french bulldogs she has a small head and many people mistake her for a Boston terrier. I'm wondering that what is the typical age that her head is full grown. If she's spayed right now, does it mean that her head will stop growing? Should I wait longer? I wish she can have a perfect body shape but also want to put her health in the first consideration. Any advice will be appreciated! Thank you so much!

They keep growing and changing until they are 1 to 2 yrs.old. We only have males so from what I've read it is better for the pup to wait until at least 1 yr. old to spay!

:smileywelcome: to FBN!

Do not spay under 6 months old. Some say after the first heat and some say longer. I don't have a female so I don't have any personal experience. But there have been numerous threads on this issue so if you use the search option, you can probably find them and get some guidelines.

Anything over 6 months of age... it really is a personal decision . I had our Bulldog, Banks spay at 6 months of age and she griw into a great sized girl, even her bitchyness stayed in tact. [emoji16]

We just spayed ours few days shy of 7 months. We didn't want her to go into heat at all. From what I heard spaying before first heat lowers chances of certain cancers. About growing, I read that spaying early results in longer bones. Not sure.

I would never spay before 6 months old and it is really a personal preference. Since she has already had her first heat cycle I would just wait a few more months and then have it done. Maybe her head will fill out a bit more too.
