We are bringing Pierce home in four days! What is the best crate size to have for him? We currently have the 24x18 size, but before opening the box and setting it up, I wanted to see if we needed to go up one size or not. Hopefully, he will not be spending a lot of time in his crate once he is older, but I guess that depends on how easily he gets housebroken. Any suggestions?

That should be a good size.... I have a 36 inch, but iot was from my previous Bulldog and Cheli does well in it

I agree with bullymama. I have a 30x 21 x 24 and I use the divider panel because it's a bit big for her.

My dog was shipped to us and he was in a small crate we paid them for and that was fine when he was a puppy but we had to go out and buy a new one when he was about 5 mos old. He's 29-30 lbs (depending on the day) full grown (18 mos) and we have one from Petco which I believe they sell as their 28". The measurements are something like 28x20.5x21.5 high. He can turn around and stretch out. It's recommended for dogs up to 30 lbs. The next biggest is for 30-50 lb dogs and it's pretty tall, not necessary for a FBD. He's only crated if we leave the house without him which is basically 1 time per week on a Friday so I see little advantage to something bigger. He does know how to open the door himself ad occasionally prefers the crate to his 2 beds for napping. Keep in mind if you travel with your dog, which we do because I won't board, you'll be expected to crate the dog when you're not in the room so you need something small enough to pack but big enough for him to stay in when he can't go with you, like to dinner. How old is Pierce? Very exciting bringing a new pup home. He'll give you much enjoyment! Post PICs soon.

Oue crates are 29 X 22 X 25" tall and are perfect for Buster! (he is 40 lbs.)

I'm not sure of the size of our crate but I know it came with a divider that we used when Jax was smaller and then took it out so that eliminated the need to get a small crate and then a larger crate for when he got bigger. Unfortunately I totally failed at crate training so he does not go in there much. When he is home alone we confine him to the kitchen.

Thank you all for answering. Pierce is 7 weeks old today, so he will be close to 8 weeks when we get him. I received the cutest video of him yesterday barking /talking at a piece of kibble on the floor. We absolutely cannot wait for the next four days to go by! I got this crate at Petco. We have one 5 minutes from our house, so I may go down there and see if they have the 29-30 inch size in stock.

Is Schatzi a Schnauzer or Dachshund or French Bulldog? :D Post the video so we can aweeeeeeeeeeeeee too!

Schatzi is our ten year-old dachshund whose life is about to be completely changed. I will definitely post the video. Just have to get it saved on my computer or iPad from the email first. It had me laughing all day yesterday and remember how cute puppies are when they bark and use their whole body to do so.

Stella has the crate that is 24 inches long. I would say it's more than enough room for her. (She did have one size up but then she feels like she can potty in one end and rest in the other!) Plus, when she sleeps she curls in a tight little ball, she's not a spread out sleeper like our other bully. :)

We use the 24" X 36" for ours.

Here is the video I received yesterday of Pierce. His breeder is asking him if he wants to play in the pool, which is a wading pool that she uses as the pups play area. It works great to contain them somewhat and still give them play room. Apparently, he was the last one out of the crate! He then sees a piece of kibble on the floor and stops to growl/bark at it too. I am thinking we are going to have a Frenchie that likes to talk back!

We should have known when we got this video that we had a "talker". He definitely tells us his opinion. I was in another room earlier and listened to him while Randy tried to convince him playtime was over. Oh, the "back talk" he was getting!!' This little guy has brought us more joy in the last 3 weeks than we could have ever imagined.

our Moolah is now 81/2 months and when we first got her at 6 weeks we had this doggy playpen that was a God sent. It has 2 zipper doors and is lightweight. What i loved about it was that it had the vinyl bottom for easy cleanup and we would put training puddle pads in at night which worked well.
Being little she couldnt get out of it and was large enough for a couple toys. It was portable so we took it to my daughters house to vist.
She outgrew it and now does nights in her crate....30 inch crate

Hudson had a playpen too -- it was a godsend. He figured out how to escape around 5 months so he moved to (medium) crate and expen.

Here's his setup when he was really tiny (it worked great for a couple months)

If anyone is interested and has a Tuesday Morning store near them, they have the doggie playpen for 29.99. It was in their June ad. That is a great price!!
