Hey Guys,
just recently got my first Frenchie puppy and wondering if the kibble the breeder recommended is a good one to stay on. Currently feed my little frenchie Royal Canin. I don't think im ready just yet for a raw diet. Any recommendations?

Welcome! RC is not a good brand at all, just look at the ingredients. Some high quality kibble would be Acana, Orijen, Fromm and Zignature just to game a few. Dogfoodadvisor.com is a good resource.

We have an English Bulldog with food allergies so we feed both dogs Natures Variety Instinct Limited Ingredient Turkey.

Thanks for the input. I'll have to look into those other brands

In the past I have fed one of my guys Acana, he pooped aloooottttttt on that particular brand. He now eats Stella and Chewy Raw Coated Kibble and is doing well!

Goodluk!! :)

Acana, Zignature, Fromm, Orijen, Open Farm are the brands I've used in the past and are knowledgeable about. I switched to a frozen raw food (Primal) after getting my Frenchie when she was around 12 months old and on Royal Canin from previous owner. I tried TOW/Acana mix for a few months before switching to raw. She is doing better and poops and pees WAY less.

If you are able to, I would switch to one of the previously mentioned brands in this thread if staying with kibble. Try your best to avoid anything that says "by-product meal" in the ingredients. You could even make the kibble more appealing by adding a bit of bone broth or raw goat's milk (I started the transition that way). Good luck!

I feed my pups Acana and haven't had the extra pooping issues. My Boston is allergic to poultry and luckily they have many different types that don't use any.

definetly will look into the recommended kibbles. thanks for sharing also that there is frozen raw food. will look into that too

Frozen raw is the best commercially available dog food out there, imo. I mostly feed Answers Pet Food. With Gus, I started off with good quality kibble, then went to dehydrated raw, then to frozen raw, as I learned more about canine nutrition. With Gracie (who we just brought home less than two weeks ago) I started on frozen raw a few days after we got her. They absolutely love it. Gracie cannot contain herself when she knows I'm fixing her meal. Here she is tonight at dinner.

i looked into all the kibbles and i think I am going to switch to from. I like what i read on the zignature but, they dont have puppy food. I started comparing all the recommended brands and its crazy all the bad ingredients in royal canin. I was shocked when comparing them. Fromm is actually also cheaper than royal canin

I think Zignature is an all life stages food which means its for any age.

Our dog came from the breeder on Royal Canin and we had the same experience. Stanley has done the best on Fromm by far, he used to get terrible watery eyes/tear stains and they are non-existent now on Fromm. He gobbles up the Pork & Peas.

great news. Cant wait to see the change a Baer. Hope it helps with his itchy legs lol

You can always contact Zignature directly and they will tell you if it’s all life stages. I never fed Louie puppy specific food.
