Hudson has what looks like some swelling in the fold under one of his eyes. He doesn't want me to touch it. I've done my best to keep his folds clean and dry, but since this one is irritated it's clear that I need something else.

What advice can you give for cleaning the face folds? What can I use? Is there anything I can put on it now to bring the swelling down and possibly mitigate a mild infection that may be occurring?

Thank you!

I've heard that coconut oil used topically can help with yeast infections.

Ugh, wrong forum again. I need to get off the iPhone haha.

I have coconut oil on hand so that'd be great. Is this typically something that is okay to treat at home? Don't want to cheat him out of a needed vet visit.

Thank you!!

Is it just swollen or is there any sort of moist discharge?

By the way, whatever you do don't use anything that will 'seal' the infection, like Vaseline.

Petrolatum products do not heal anything. They simply 'cover up'.

He's asleep on me right now, so I took a photo of it. No discharge, just swollen. (On the right)

Is he eye swollen too or just the fold.... wondering if it is a bug bite

Could be a mild allergic reaction to something he was sniffing?

Just the fold, his eyes are always a little buggy haha.

I'm not sure, it's been going on a few days. He does get into everything despite my best efforts, so it's certainly possible.

Have you tried benadryl in case it is an allergic reaction? Mac's face was like that after an allergy shot but it went away the next day.

I'll give him some Benadryl tonight and report back. Do fold infections not usually get swollen?

The coconut oil was kind of difficult as all he wanted to do was eat it haha.

Benedryl is a good idea... 1mg per pound of dog up to 3x a day. An infection can get swollen depends on where it is and how long it has been there

Mal a kat wipes work great for that, you can get them off Amazon, plus put a little Desiten on it once you get it cleaned

I can't find anything by that name on amazon :(. Do they perhaps get sold under a different one? Thank you!!

They arrived yesterday and I just tried them -- it was a real struggle (he hates me near his eyes after his multiple eye injuries), but I felt like they worked great and we got it eventually. Thank you thank you!! Love this forum for all of the wonderful advice!
