Blood in stool for months

Yeah, I am really struggling with a decision now, yesterday I was so sure I would have him get the colonoscopy but now I want to give the medicine a try. I'm just so scared that he will get worse and I will regret going straight to the Baytril. It's different with all dogs I'm sure but how long did it take for you to see results with the Baytril?

He was on Baytril twice (once in February and just recently in July) - both for 14 days. The first time his colitis was really bad (straining to poop, both regular poop and also diarrhea with blood, blood leaking from his butt) and we saw results about the 4th or 5th day after starting on Baytril. The 2nd time (a few weeks ago in early July) that his colitis flared up (it was pretty mild compared to previous episode (no straining, no diarrhea, just constant blood in stool and leaking from his butt)), we saw results quicker, about the 2nd or 3rd day after starting Baytril. Our vet recommended to try Baytril first before doing the colonoscopy but I know every vet has their own opinion... Another thing is note is even though all this was happening (blood in stool, etc), Archie (he's currently ~19 months old) was eating, drinking, playing normal (not lethargic or losing any weight).

So, I am still unsure if Draco will be having the colonoscopy or not but... I received his allergy test and I have no idea what to feed him now. These are his allergies: beef, chicken, turkey, venison, barley, rabbit, bison, buffalo, elk, deer, brown rice syrup, maltose, duck, milk, pork, white fish, oatmeal, and lamb. Wow. He's currently on a salmon food which is fine for now, I'm just not a fan of the other ingredients (lots of corn products, corn has been proven to not be beneficial, even for humans), ignoring that, if he does get the colonoscopy he is only allowed broths, what kind of broth could I ever possibly give him? Can't give chicken, beef, pork broth. Just vegetable broth? But then he's not getting any protein. I guess it's just for one day.
Any advice for that? Or any food recommendations? I know a lot of people on here advocate for raw but I don't think raw salmon would be best for him, I wouldn't mind dehydrated or freeze-dried recipes but I haven't found any that would work for him so far. I don't really like kibble but he might have to.

HOLY WOW! You can do fish broth.
Check The Honest Kitchen spot farms or Open Farms.. they are dehydrated brands

Thank you for your help, unfortunately, no luck. I had already checked THK because I really like their food but there is no food without his allergens. I just checked the other two and the same thing. Most salmon recipes contain white fish too which is one of Draco's allergens :( . I was on the phone with the specialist today and she said personally she doesn't feel comfortable doing an antibiotic trial with baytril. Sucks, but I can't force her. Just trying to think that everything happens for a reason, so he will be getting a colonoscopy. I know I am a crazy dog mom but does anyone have experience with their puppy (Draco will be 9 months by that time, I guess he's not that much of a baby anymore) getting a colposcopy young? Anything I should ask? I am going to ask what anesthetic they will be using, I heard sevoflurane is preferable for brachycephalic breeds instead of the usual isoflurane. Did you give your dogs jello two days before the procedure? I talked to the specialist about the broths and she said I can give him jello too so he feels like he is still eating something. I was confused by that because repacked jello is very artificial and sugary and she was like no it's fine! I think Draco will be having his mom make him jello because I don't need him eating that crap lol. Maybe unflavored with natural apple juice? Sounds yummy.

It’s normal to not feed a dog prior to a procedure. He’ll be fine with not eating for a day. I don’t remember what you’re currently feeding but I know Zignature carries proteins like goat and kangaroo. Not sure off the top of my head what the other ingredients are but it’s a really good brand.

Agree with Citty… look into the Zingnature line of novel proteins.
Also, just curious, was your baby off all immune suppressant meds for at least 30 days when his allergy testing was done? If still in system it may have given false results.

I have no experience with colonoscopy but I am putting Draco on my prayer list

Zignature is on my short list of the foods I am considering, but their protein/fat/carb ratio is ok, not amazing. These are the ones I am considering Zignature Salmon Formula, American Journey Limited Ingredient Salmon & Sweet Potato Recipe Grain-Free Dry Dog Food, CANIDAE PURE Petite Adult Small Breed Grain-Free with Salmon Dry Dog Food, Solid Gold / Taste of the Wild may be ok (they contain a little white fish in their salmon recipes), but none have stood out so far so I am still researching. He was on antibiotics when test was done but they had a spot for me to write what medications he was taking so they probably kept that in mind.

Draco is doing so well!! The baytril worked after about a week or less and his poops are getting better and his throwing up too. It's all under control now and Draco and I couldn't be happier. Please in the future if anyone is struggling with their dog's blood in stool or HUC please reach out to me, I have learned so much about it because there is not too much information about it online and most vets do not know how to properly diagnose this. If I could help this process be easier for anyone else, I would be so blessed. It was not easy for us, even with some help, so I know if I could help another family with this I would without a doubt.
