So my frenchie can't really stand up, he limps on both of his rear legs. It got worse through out the day so we went to go see the vet and the vet said he is not paralyzed, but got diagnosed with IVDD Disc Disease INTERVERTEBRAL, and gave him steroid shots to help his back get better. I just want to know if you guys have any experience with anything like this?

A few of us have some level of experience
Cbrugs - her Jax had surgery about two months and is doing great now. But has life long restrictions

My boy has issues and we maintain with Movoflex daily and monthly laser therapy--- he is doing great with it.

Till you get on a maintenance regiment... no stairs and no jumping

Jax has IVDD which was just recently discovered as he has to have surgery to repair a herniated disc in his neck. We caught it in time before it affected his legs but there will always be a chance of a recurrence.

Last week he completed his 6 weeks of crate rest post surgery. He's doing really good but we will always have to minimize his jumping on/off the couches and carry him up/down stairs which will help minimize further issues. I also got him an 8 inch elevated food and water bowl so he doesn't have to bend down.

I did a lot of reading about IVDD and a lot of people swear by the laser therapy especially if their dogs were paralyzed. Acupuncture might be a good option as well.

How was the diagnosis determined? Did the vet do an X-ray or MRI?

Was your dog like mine were he couldn't really use his back legs? Now he's doing better with the laser treatment?

Jax didn't lose movement in his legs. Had I waited it was possible. It will always be a possibility in the future as well. But from what I've read from other people, the laser therapy helped their dogs who couldn't use their legs. So it might be a good option for you.

Hi Christine, did your dog have the same symptoms with mine where can barely control his back legs, and you did the laser treatment and now he's doing better?

No, his legs were fine but he would not go up/down stairs or get on/off furniture-- he was also moving around very slowly. Like he wS afraid to move.

You need to talk with the vet and determine how to start off and then you work up to once a month. Fir Cheli, we did 3x a week for a month then 2x a week fir a month them once a week for a month, then every other week , then once a month

Buster had a similar diagnosis from our vet, we did laser treatments--2 sets of 6 so it cost $300. He liked the treatments but they didn't help his hind legs work better. I took him to WSU Vet. Hospital to see a neurologist. The exam showed the problem was orthopedic--he had torn the ACL in both hind legs. He had a surgery called TPLO on both legs, did the recoup and rehab and is good as knew now.
