I noticed bumps along my black 6 month old French bull dogs gums and would like to know if their normal or something I should be concerned about?

Warts maybe? Jax had clusters of warts all in his mouth when he was younger but they were white. I would definitely have him looked at by a vet.

Aren't oral warts or papillomatosis suppost to be harmless? I read up on papillomatosis, and in the reading it explains warts as a virus related to a weak immune system that all dogs become exposed to. Eventually the warts are suppost to subside and clear up on thier own. It goes onto explain that removing the warts does not remove the virus, and cancer forming warts are rare but possible.

I just pulled my frenchie's lip back and he has these too. He just went to the vet last week for a full checkup and has a clean bill of health, so I think that these are normal, and they're not warts.. I think it's just the inside bottom of their lips.

Edit: I googled "dog mouth" and in almost all of the photos you can see these to some extent.

Not sure what they are called but to my knowledge all dogs (including my Frenchy) have them :)
So they are not warts and definitely nothing to worry about :)

they look like puppy warts to me.... nothing to do but let them run the course, but they are contagious :D You should go to vet to confirm

No offense but according to the above comments other dog owners are saying it's completely common and thier dogs all have the same thing. So no cause for alarm.

Besides my pups are heavily insured for emergency care but I don't intend to drop $50-$85 everytime to run to a vet just so they can tell me it's normal or its warts and it'll correct itself on its own.

Its not hurting her or effecting her in anyway.

Could be from chewing on a toy or bone, or could be the warts, only time will tell if they go away in a few days or so.

I do not see any lumps on the mouth of my dogs, jagged black gums (normal) but no lumps/bumps. As 2bullymama stated, this could in fact be warts, no way to tell for sure unless you go to the vet.

Yes, the warts are harmless however they can be highly contagious to young puppies and older dogs. We had to keep Jax quarantined until they went away which took about 4 - 5 months

Right. Well if you'd like to cover the vet bill be my guest. I think it goes without saying I posted my question to a forum and if I we're going to pay for the vet to tell me I wouldn't have posted. I think I posted my thoughts on a vet visit in response to 2bullymama and didn't really need a 2nd post to reassert her opinion. Thanks.

I personally don't see the point in quarantine if it is harmless and all dogs do aquire it at some point or another. Its really not much different than a case of acne or the chicken pox.

I did say that is was normal, and they don't look like warts to me BUT I am not a doctor. I just don't want you to take my opinnion 100% and it be wrong. You know what they say, free advice is worth what you pay for it. :)

Not all dogs acquire them, they are normal to puppies, hence the name 'puppy warts' and just like chicken pox the older the dog is that contracts them they can become dangerous to their health. The quarantine is not about the pup with the virus it is about the others he comes in contact with, both canine and human alike. Yes, YOU can get them too. I suggested the vet visit just so you can know for sure what they are, but it is not normal... I have been around them and they can get very nasty, a high percentage of the human population knows nothing of them till they see them so the reason bullmama 'reasserted' my post was just to let you know that it is more than likely puppy warts.

As moderators of the forum, it is part of what we do, sharing the experience and knowledge -- when we see that a response a member is getting may not be correct, or there are other courses of action or options, we confirm the post with the better advice with a quote and say we agree with this... it helps a member understand and decide what course to take.

None of us are here to tell you how to spend your money or push to go to a vet... we just try to get as much knowledge out to the owners that need it. We are never always right, no one is, but we try.

I appreciate that. Reading up on dog warts from what I've read dog warts can't actually be transmitted to humans. Vet visits seems to be a reaccuring theme on the forums. I think two wellness exams a year are sufficient unless its an emergency.

Actually, not all dogs get them. If your kid had chicken pox, would you knowingly expose him to other kids? I'm hoping the answer is no. When kids had chicken pox, they were quarantined and couldn't go to school.

The bumps may very well be normal but only a vet could make that determination. And honestly, if you don't want to incur vet bills, then maybe you shouldn't have gotten a dog, especially a Frenchie who are known for having multiple health issues.

Some of your comments on here are quite rude. When you post a question to a forum, you're going to get multiple opinions. Only a vet can make a true diagnosis.
