I recently Norm was sitting on my arm and when he got up there was a residue on my arm that smelled terrible. Could this be an anal gland issue? I've know a couple of dogs that had to have their anal glands expressed but they were constantly dragging their butts on the floor. Norm doesn't drag his butt at all.

I haven't had that issue but it sounds like it may be the anal glands. I know the Petsmart where I live will do the anal glands for a small fee.

agree -- sounds like anal glands, I'd have them checked and if it is not them, then you'll know you need to have the vet check him out

Our English Bulldog, Ruggles manages to express his own anal glands and the smell is horrible. It sounds like that's what it is.

I wouldn't fret... I learned many years ago that dogs who do not have tails tend to occasionally express they anal glands accidentally depending on how they sit on something. Unless the issue becomes a chronic one, I wouldn't worry about going to a vet or a groomer. Over expressing the glands can be a bad idea.

His stools are hard. I will mention it to my vet the next time were in.
