We've had Daisy for about 2 months now. So far she has done amazing in her crate. I've been leaving nylabones in her crate with her everyday but she completely ignores them. Occasionally, I will do a stuffed, frozen kong which she picks at but doesn't do much with. I definitely don't classify her as a heavy chewer. She likes to chew on split antlers, water buffalo horns, cow hooves, bully sticks and Himalayan chews in the evenings when she isn't in her crate. She seems to really enjoy them and does well with them. She hasn't made it through anything completely in two months with the exception of a bully stick. I would never leave her with a bully stick in her crate (although she'd love it) because I've had to rescue smaller pieces from her throat before so she is only allowed to have them when supervised.

My question is can I leave other items with her I her crate while I'm at work (water buffalo horns, split antlers, Himalayan chews, cow hooves)? What risks do I run if I leave those items with her?

I would say it is not worth the risk. I mean, if she is doing amazing in her crate why change things up. I am sure she would love to have some extra things to do but if she bites off a chunk and it gets lodged in her throat you would feel terrible.

I leave a stuffed animal in Bella's crate, and sometimes, but rarely a nylabone (depending on how long I am gone for). But I find Bella doesn't do much chewing in her crate anyways, usually she chews only when she is hyper and happy and this is not the case when she has to go to her bed (the crate).

I totally get where you're coming from though. You probably just want her to feel occupied and not bored when she is in there. It is great you have this mindset :)

I give Cheli an empty marrow bone or an antler ..... he normally ignores them, but I feel better knowing he has something if the urges strikes him. Lambeau always has an antler as he does at time wake up and chew on it (peek in during the day with web cam)

I will bet that she probably sleeps most of the time she is in her crate so she doesn't really need a whole bunch of toys. I would keep leaving a nylabone with her but she doesn't really need much else. Wally rarely played with anything when he was crated.

We leave nylabones in our dogs' crates but nothing else. They are both active chewers and shred and eat stuffed toys!

I used to leave a nylabone too but he just ignored it, so I stopped. He just curls into a ball and sleeps. I guess it depend too on how long you crate for at a time. I'd leave something if Dexter was going to be alone for a long time in case he wanted to chew :)
