Quella has some rust coloured goo in between her toes on the top and bottom of her feet. It looks like dried scab, but isnt. I've seen it off and on and the last time I visited the vet, there was a lil, but I forgot to let the him know to check on it. I'll be taking her to the vet to look at it, as well as the pink spot on her muzzle asap. She hasnt licked her paws to have caused concern for me to have looked and the past 2 times she was at the groomer, it wasnt brought to my attention. I hope she hasn't suffered and I feel terrible to have not seen how bad it was until now. The last time we were at the vet, she was prescribed an antibiotic to heal her torn up skin from scratching and causing sores from allergies. That may have helped it a bit to have made it somewhat go away. Just curious if anyone knows what it is, so I can be prepared for the possible treatment process. This is the first time I've been able to get a pic because she's such a squirmy wormey. She was super exhausted after spending 2 hours at the pet store followed by tons of attention at O.H.S.O Brewery which is beyond dog friendly and has a 10x30 astro turf area with poo bags and a hand washing station with chairs. We were also allowed to sit at the tables partially in the inside area and she was allowed on the seating which was beyond surprising.

She also has the below, which I thought was a scab from climbing on and off the couch or bed, but now that I'm reading about yeast, do you think it could be that?

XoXo from Quella La Roux and her mommy too!

Yes, this is very likely caused by yeast. Both, the rusty coloured paws and the scaps are common signs.

The vet will probably prescribe some sort of cream (maybe even steroids) but there are other things that Id try first.
ACV together with brewed green tea for example. Or coconut oil which is highly antifungal. Then there is also Kefir, which kills of pathogenic yeast from the inside.

Starch feeds yeast. Kibble needs starch in order to stick together. However some kibble uses more than others. Try to avoud anything starchy as much as possible, at least for now. That includes starchy treats.

agreed -- yeast! Our Bulldog, Banks, was a yeasty mess before I got her off grains and white potato... then it was gone except when her allergies were really bad. I had to wipe her with a cool wash cloth whenever we came in from being outside, I alos added ACV to her water and a scoop of plain greek yogart -- but in doing so I kept her off the meds

Great thread. Bambi has this, too. We treat her feet (and ears) once a week, but I think we are just treating the symptom. I will try the ACV and yogurt in her food. Right now I am feeding Fromm Pork and Peas. Can you and MaplesMommy tell me what you feed?

Fromm Pork and Peas is what worked best for Banks....

Mavis You are absolutely right.ACV,coconut oil & even whatever a vet may prescribe only puts a bandaid on & doesnt do anything about the cause. You would have to eliminate starch as much as possible in order to elminate yeast overgrowth. As said before, kibble needs starch, otherwise it would just be a bag of dust. Different kibble brands use different amounts of starch. But they all do. The only thing that doesnt is fresh,species-appropriate food aka a raw diet. Home cooking would be another option, however you would have to avoid starchy ingredients such as white rice(810g/kg starch),potatoes(650 g/kg starch),certain vegetables etc.
The problem with grain free dog food is,that instead it uses potatoes or peas( 410 g/kg starch)which are both high in starch.

If you are up to it, look into The Honest Kitchen, it may be an option. Banks did well on the Pork and peas so I did not have to change foods, but it still may be too much for Bambi

Thanks everyone. Ugh, I was afraid that her food was still starchy because I know that peas are a starch. I've seen other flavors that are "sweet potato," but again, I know that is a starch. I will check out the threads on raw and The Honest Kitchen. I am so hesitant about feeding raw, though. It is so foreign right now. My friend at work has a bull terrier with bad allergies. Her husband has researched extensively and only feeds raw. I will pick his brain, too. I think he makes her food once a week.

Yes, there are some good threads on diets on here. :)
If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Ive been feeding raw for a year now, study canine/feline nutrition and work at a pet nutrition store,so its pretty much my passion & I would love to help you,if you need anything :)

We were nervous about raw too, but buying the pre mixed "safe" raw has worked well for us. When we get another Frenchie I plan to order from Raw Feeding Miami for cost efficiency, but I think starting out it's helpful to not have to know exactly how to mix it just right for nutrients etc. Feeding raw has made a world of difference for Hudson and I'll likely never feed anything else to my future dogs.

Quella got good news... she has a bacterial infection, not a yeast infection. She has Simplicef-Cefpodoxime to hopefully prevent it from turning in to a yeast infection and is being washed in Malaseb shampoo. I'm crossing my fingers that we caught it before it turns into something more serious and harder to get rid of.

Here's to a successful outcome.

Hoping for a quick clearing and it does not turn into anything more
