After reading the information posted about the best dog foods, I changed Penelope's diet 2-3 weeks ago. She had so much itchiness and seems to still have it. Ears, eyes, her who who, and so on. Her eyes weep a lot. I switched to Zignature after talking the pet store lady. She said it could be a few months before I notice any changes with Pen's itching. Of course some of it could be seasonal allergies on top of yeast.

should be a few weeks, not months for seeing any difference on the food... seasonal allergies is kicking my Bulldog's butt right now

Thanks for your input! The itching definitely got worse once it was spring.

I agree, if its only food related, you should see a difference within weeks after switching.

If its environmental there isnt a whole lot you can do unfortunately...

Have you considered cutting out all sugar and trying a fresh (raw) diet?

Now that I look back to what the itching used to be, well it has improved. I should've put more thought into that before posting my original post. Penelope doesn't get any sugar, only her dog food and I use her food as treats while training her. I hadn't thought of a raw food diet but I will look into it.

I agree with everything above. When we changed food, it took maybe 2 weeks to start to see a difference, and within 6 weeks a big improvement. Have you been able to do any allergy testing at all? Dust mites are a problem for Dexter, and we'd never have known without the testing. We didn't do the food testing, but may do in future.

Oh, what I meant with sugar is the carbohydrate/starch content of her food (which turns into sugar inside the body). Just checked out the Zignature Duck (as an example) and they are 41% carbs. So almost half of every amount that you feed her is sugar... Sugar causes inflammation and the number one dog killer, cancer, thrives on sugar. Cancer rate being 1 in 2 dogs, Id avoid as much sugar as possible.

I had no idea Zignature was that high in carbs. Thank you for looking into that. Before I read that post, I just bought Natures Logic. I'm hoping for better results but I'm going to check the carbs out on the bag. I really appreciate all of the feedback. I do believe Penelope has seasonal allergies on top of everything.
