Hi, I am a new Frenchie mom - enjoying the lil booger so much! I have an older dog - a pug mix, and we have always used a doggie door. Calvin is getting the doggie door training down, my question is at what age is appropriate to leave him out of his crate during the day while I am at work? I would just give him access to the kitchen/dinette area (which is all tiled) and then to the side of the house outside.

Thanks in advance for your help ;)

Welcome!!! Wally was 1 year old when we stopped crating him during the day. Every dog is different so you'll probably have to judge yourself when you could let Calvin have a bit more run of the house.

Pics of Calvin? We love pics around here. :)

Thank you!! Just feel likes it not fair he is in the crate and our other dog isn't :fie: image.jpg

Calvin is such a cutie! We have had pet doors and Bulldogs for over 30 years. As long as the side yard is secure and puppy proof I see no problem letting him go uncrated all day while you are at work!

I think Jake was around 10 months when we let him free roam. Once they seem a little less mischievious and destructive I would say they can be left out. It all depends on the dog.

My guys are crated all day...with a pet sitter at mid-day for an hour play date in the yard. I have had two previous Bulldogs that had free roam of the house without ever having an issue, but the two buggers I have now, are too curious... especially Cheli he just likes to check out everything and get into what he should not if he is not with one of us.... when we are home, he is so good and just is my shadow, but if left alone, he becomes Curious George.

Welcome! Calvin is a cutie! I didn't crate train Jax. If he is going to be home alone for an extended period of time, he is confined to the kitchen. If it's for a short period of time, he will get free roam of the upstairs with all bedrooms/bathroom doors shut. I also pull up any chew toys so there are no accidents.
