Hi All!

My frenchie has a terrible habit of making this chirpy whining noise in the morning. From day one, we've had her sleeping in her crate in our bedroom. At first, she'd wait until we woke up to start whining... then it became a scheduled thing. Right around 7:15 EVERY morning (even on weekends) she'll start to make that loud chirpy whine... It's only gotten worse. Unfortunately, we were dumb enough in the beginning to reward her by letting her out when she whined. But now - we're looking for a way to stop this habit.

Any suggestions?

Ps. We don't like making her sleep in another room because she's so used to being able to see us from her crate...

have you tried covering her crate and going back to ignoring till she is quite?

at least you get 7;15... Cheli is up and pawing at me every morning at 5;00AM... sometime earlier

Oh you're lucky! 7:15?! I'm between 5:30-6:00am. Her crate is downstairs and my bedroom is upstairs and ur was a daily thing. Until someone told me about covering her crate! I has been a miracle! Now she only starts whining when she hears my alarm go off. I can actually sleep in. Also Nellie dies the whining thing when I leave her in the crate to go take a shower. I'm not sure how to stop it. I Cleo and say no and she's quiet for a second and then starts again.

She never whines when l leave her. But when she knows am around she doesn't want to be in her crate. But try coveting her crate overnight it has worked for me so far.

She may be telling you she needs to get out and go potty. My boys certainly need to go before that. What is her bedtime?

I agree this could be the reason if you go to bed earlier there could be too much time in between her last potty

I find that my dogs really do like sticking to routine. Thankfully mine want to get up and be let out at around 8am... I wouldn't really like if they bugged me any earlier than that. But we let them out at night at around 10pm so that's 10 hours before the next potty and they can hold it that long at the age they are. Maybe I'm just lucky they like to sleep as much as we do.

And if you already are letting her out later and she's just doing this out of habit then it's more of a behavioral issue and you can just try telling her a firm no and ignoring her and then letting her out when she stops whining

Yup! My dogs know that if the alarm does not go off it's time to sleep in. They will usually wait until 8am and then they need to go potty so they will hit the side of the bed until I wake up. After potty they come to bed with us and cuddle for an hour or so. Love the weekends. :)

We have our last walk of the night usually around 9:30 or 10:00... we make sure she doesn't drink a lot of water after the last walk so that way the "tank" isn't full overnight. We've tried ignoring her... sometimes my husband has to wake up and move her and the crate into another room.

yes i get this too!!! When i leave the house or it's bed time she doesn't whine, but when i go for a shower its like a howl/whine noise.. it's frustrating because I feel like i'm being rushed haha! I know the best method is ignoring the whining and treat when she's quiet but it's hard when you're already in the shower

I think its because they know that you`re about to leave! My mom has been with us the last few days and is with the dog all day, but she still cries when i head upstairs to take a shower and she whines when i leave now. Which she has never done before. i think its cos she`s not yet comfortable wit my mom. i have learned to ignore her or sometimes clap and yell NO but it only stops her for a second

I would say she needs to go potty. You are lucky she stays quiet till 7:30. Lucy out English will start sounding off around 6 AM, and will continue, then about 30 or 40 minutes, Katie will chime in. They get on a schedule and usually stay to it.
