Excessive pooping while out on a walk.

Our Rambo likes to poop multiple times when he's out. The first poop is normal but every time we go out he does it 3-5 times extra in a span of 20 minutes. The poop becomes more and more liquid after the first one. It seems like he's trying to clean out his system but I cannot seem to understand why he does this. Any ideas please?

He eats Orijen puppy 2/3 cups, 2 times a day. He's on the active side and very skinny so we gave him a bit more than his brother.
When doesn't go out and inside the apartment he would poo normally 2-3 times a day. But once he's outside he forces everything and anything out.

I think it is because he is out on a walk and excited about that and all of the good smells, etc. Also, he could be leaving his scent around--probably a combination of those.

The food may be a little too rich for him. I had the same problem with Stella on this food. Every dog is different. If you don't want to switch foods you can try and add some canned pumpkin or white rice which will firm things up.

Agreed sounds like the food might be too rich. We used to do the 6 fish diet and now we do fish and sweet potatoe mix and its way better on Banksys tummy

I think it is more normal for them to want to pee places to leave a mark, the runny poo sounds like its a tummy issue

maybe try switching up his diet a little

That is what I suspect also. He gets too excited for the first 20-30 minutes. We always think he's trying to clear his body to ensure he's enjoying the walk to its full potential :tongue: But I wonder if there is a way to teach him not to get too excited? He is quite an excitable puppy, especially when meeting people.

Rambo's first poo when outside is perfectly fine, its just he's forcing out whatever is left in his tummy (even if the poo is still fresh and not in its finalized stage). Not sure if I can feed him the 6 fish diet yet since he's only 6 months old.

I just bought another 13kg bag of Orijen but I will probably buy an Acana and mix it up!

Sounds familiar. Mo had the same issue with Orijen puppy. It is definitely good food, but it is rich on protein. Some puppies react to that. We were not aware of this, so we went through the puppy phase with Orijen.

We switched then to Acana, that gave a bit similar reaction, then went for Ziwipeak, did not fit due to other issues, then to Canagan, that made him fart like grazy, now Pure Natural fish mix and it seems to fit well for his stomach...although he does not like it that much...maybe will transfer yet to another one...
That said, it can sometimes be an effort to find the perfect diet :whew:

Have switched to Acana since and their poop has been much more solid. Rambo is only going twice when he's out now.
Thank you all for the advice. Will probably look for other slightly less protein food for him after this acana bag.
