Hi guys.
I have a 4-month-old Brindle Frenchie name Diego he's amazing except I cannot get him to produce a normal stool. He eating versus puppy advantage. I normally free feed him placing 2 cups of food in his bowl and letting him have at it throughout the day.

What would you guys recommend as far as feeding amount, occurrence, food brands?
I'm willing to listen to all recommendations as I want the best for my little guy.

Any feedback food help!
Thanks guys

Maybe the food doesn't agree with him? He may have a food allergy of some sort.

I never free-fed my dogs when they were puppies. They had specific feeding times. I don't think that would affect his stool unless he's eating the whole 2 cups at once.

I hope someone else can chime in with advice as I never really had this problem with my pups.

I would not free feed. Feed three times a day until he is about 6 months of age then go to twice a day. Too much food will cause loose stools. I would not feed more that 1 1/2 cups a day for now, split up in three meals. If the stools are still soft reduce the food a little until it does. Plus the food could causing it as well, but I would try the amount first. I like feeding pups a lot of food and usually gauge it by their poop. If it is hard, I feed a little more until it gets soft, then back the amount down just a bit.

Thanks David for the response!
I've started to the feeding schedule you recommended today hopefully that clears things up.

The food is Verus puppy advantage, it was recommended to me by the owner of a small pet store who only sells natural and top quality dog products.

He stated that big companies that sell dog food just throw whatever in the products and a lot of it come from china which produces coat problems and other things.

shaquillew8 the food you are feeding seems like a good food. After looking at it, you might try feeding a little less than 1/2 cup at each feeding to see if the stools harden up, and go from there. If he does well on that food then I would stick with it, but if he doesn't you may want to change. We feed our puppies FROMM Puppy Gold in the pink bag, and have always had good luck with it. FROMM is a quality food, and we feed our adult dogs the grain free version. Keep us posted as how it is going and I have a feeling once you reduce the amount, his stools will get better.

you can always try rice and pumpkin....my boys had explosive stools since I bought them home two weeks ago firm them up with rice and boiled chicken, make sure he has plenty of water I put pedilite in my dogs water to replace electrolites loose due to jet fuel stool

Has he been checked for parasites? A puppy that age should be fed 3 times per day. He could also get diahrrea if you are feeding too much food.

Thank you, davidh! After drawing back food I have seen his stools reappear! Such a relief.

shaquillew8 that's great news. :) Sometimes it's just the simple things that make a difference. So happy your pup is better.
