We have an 11 year old Frenchie, Zeke, who has been perfectly healthy until the last few weeks. He had two seizures within 2 days 2 weeks ago and has seemed fine every since...until today he had another one. They last about 2-3 minutes and he wet himself today which really upset him. :(

Does anyone have any similar experience with older Frenchies? I am a single mom and know that I can't afford a lot of diagnostic testing so am hoping that this doesn't continue. Any advice, information and encouragement is greatly appreciated!

I have no experience with this, but hopefully someone will chime in soon. I would let your vet take a look at him. He definitely has something going on.

Sorry your pup is experiencing seizures, but I would discuss treatment options with your vet. Stella suffered from seizures when she was 11 weeks old. The vet placed her on phenobarbitol and recommended that we get an MRI. The MRI showed that she had mild to moderate hydrocephalus which they attributed to the seizures. I weaned her off of the medication and she has been seizure free since. I know this may not provide help with your 11 year old, but determining the cause of seizures can be difficult, especially without an MRI, which can be quite pricey. I would keep a journal of the seizures and then discuss options with the vet.

My dog had what I thought were seizures infrequently but the more I read about them I think what he has are tremors. It doesn't happen very often but when it does it is scary and there doesn't seem to be a common denominator. I told my vet about them and he said tremors are more common and if he's not foaming the mouth and biting his tongue off not to worry so I haven't. I had an doberman who had no history of seizures and one day when he was bout 7 or so he had his first and bit his tongue off so we had to put him down. My French Bulldog started when he was about 18 mos old and he's 3 1/2 now and hasn't had an episode in a long time.

Hi,
we have just got a puppy of 11 wks old, her name is Tallula (don't laugh), she is fantastic apart from over the weekend we had to take her to the vets as she was in distress and in obvious pain, the vet gave her pain killers because she thought she had managed to hurt her neck somehow, we have been keeping a close eye on her, she eating fine, playful, toilets fine and in general good spirits, the only thing that is bothering me is, when she is dozing on my lap she is shaking and suffering from tremor like things, it just doesn't seem right, I could contact the vet but I know she will ask all the vital questions which she is doing fine with, she has started sleeping in her crate on her own at night, do you think she is looking for extra attention by doing the shaking.

I don't believe she is looking for attention. Dogs will shake when they are in distress. I agree with 2bullymama to video tape it. You could show your vet as well to make sure it is normal.

They will shake when they are in pain. That may be what she is doing. Poor girl. :(

I have a 11month old he started having seizures about 2 months ago no cause found in any of the tests he is on phenobarb now. Not sure what to do for him next. There is no obvious link in situation that point to a cause although they have all been in the evening and he was asleep just before. The only test left is MRI but neuro assessmemt said he had no signs so not sure if i should go ahead with it as it is expensive?

Hi, she has calmed down now, I also contacted the person whom I bought her from, she told me her sister does the same when she is really tired, also have taken her to vets socialisation class and mentioned it, she seems to think she is fine, put my mind at ease a bit, like when you have your first child, you are a bag of nerves until you settle in, anyway she eating, toilets, playing and walking with me without the lead, so all is good, thanks for response.
